The Department of Internal Medicine at UCSF-Fresno and Veterans Affairs Central California Healthcare System (VACCHCS) is seeking a full-time physician to fill the position of ED Medical Director with direct medical staff supervision. The selected candidate will be appointed in a faculty position at the level of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in the HS or Clinical X series depending on qualifications. This position will serve as the Emergency Department Medical Director at the VA Central California Healthcare System which services Veteran patients in Fresno by supporting a Level III Emergency Department. Clinical coverage and administrative/supervisory duties are approximately 50%/50%. Incumbent should possess excellent leadership skills with knowledge of VA Performance Measures and principles of Systems Redesign including implementation of emergency department and hospital flow practices. This area of the hospital has a high volume and treats patients that are acutely and critically ill. It is essential that the physicians that work in this area have the appropriate knowledge base and skill set to safely manage our Veterans. Physicians in this area must be residency trained in Emergency Medicine or residency trained in Internal Medicine, Surgery or Family Practice with experience in an Emergency Medicine practice environment. A physician must also be board certified in their respective Specialty. A physician should also be proficient in managing medical and surgical emergencies that can present in the midst of lower acuity patients. The ED Medical Director will be expected to maintain and cultivate the collegial relationships and collaboration between all stakeholders. This position will function as an important contributor to the UCSF Fresno IM residency and fellowship programs. VACCHCS is a Complexity Level II health care facility. We have an active and expanding clinical research program. Faculty appointment with UCSF will be commensurate with the applicant’s background and accomplishments. The program is located in Fresno, California, a vibrant, growing but affordable community in the Central California Valley just a short drive to Yosemite and other national parks.
