Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Public Health Representative III for the Department of Pediatrics at the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
This position provides pre and post HIV test counseling in various settings including the Emergency Department using the New Jersey Department of Health HIV Testing Standards
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Provides risk reduction education to all clients and encourages repeat testing based on client risk assessment.
Provides comprehensive needs assessment of HIV positive clients for three (3) months per state guidelines.
Provides case management services for HIV positive clients for three (3) months including referral and follow up for positive clients per state guidelines.
Completes HIV testing documentation within established guidelines.
Maintains up-to-date resource materials for client services.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field plus one (1) year of community based social service experience.
Three years of community based social services experience.
Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree and educational requirements..
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
HIV Counselor certification (if applicable, HIV Counselor refresher within the past five (5) years).
Bilingual skills (English/Spanish).
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Physical Demands: Job requires standing on feet multiple hours at a time, walking within the hospital complex, navigating stairs, elevators, etc. Ability to safely operate motor vehicle. No special vision requirements. Ability to lift or exert up to 25 lbs.
Willingness to travel to outside locations using own vehicle, if requested.
