Respiratory Therapist - Respiratory Extended Care – Orlando- Part time

Our respiratory care team consists of highly skilled and engaged critical thinkers, the vast majority of which are registered therapists with Bachelor or higher degrees. We provide services to a multiplicity of patients experiencing pulmonary complications throughout all areas of our hospital 24-7 to include pediatrics, emergency department, intensive care unit and all nursing units. Under the direction of the physician we incorporate scope of practice principles to evaluate and properly apply various forms of interventional therapies, medical gas delivery, invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilator support, and perform invasive interventions to include intubation and arterial line insertion and diagnostic tests applying evidenced based medicine to ensure implementation of best practice principles. The Respiratory Therapist / Extended Care Practitioner is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the treatment, care, and needs of an assigned group of patients. Specific age groups are identified in the principal duties and job responsibilities section. The Extended Care Practitioner provides limited critical care procedures and maintains life support equipment under the direction of the Manager of Extended Care. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. Adheres to AdventHealthCorporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies.
Critical thinking and patient assessment skills, with the ability to evaluate and modify plan of care
Understands optimal use of oxygen delivery equipment
Ability to use applicable infection control standards
Effective oral and written communication skills, including documentation in the patient care record.
Airway management skills, including maintenance of a patent airway and care of artificial airways
Ability to provide optimal respiratory support including: administration of oxygen, inhaled medications, lung expansion, and bronchial hygiene. Ability to appropriately operate and use non-invasive and invasive modes of mechanical ventilation
Associate's degree from a Respiratory Therapy or Cardiopulmonary Science program, OR
If hired prior to November 20, 2015, must be a graduate of a Respiratory Therapy or Cardiopulmonary program
Experience working in Critical Care or an Extended Care facility (Preferred)
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:
Current Florida State License as a Certified or Registered Respiratory Therapist

Utilizes knowledge and skill to care for adult and geriatric patient in a health care delivery system.
Practices standard precautions and enforces safety regulations according to hospital policies on a continual basis. Documents procedures accurately and completely to ensure quality standards set by the department and facility.
Responds to Code Blue emergencies immediately providing CPR according to the American Heart Association guidelines. Performs airway maintenance including: proper use of manual resuscitators, suctioning, assists with bronchoscopy, performs trach tube changes, trach care, oral and nasal pharyngeal airway insertion and procedural respiratory support.
Properly utilizes patient assessment skills, prescriber care plans, chart review, and conferring with multidisciplinary team to determine efficacy of therapy in a cost and time efficient manner making appropriate recommendations and changes.
Performs respiratory therapies and oxygen delivery therapies and makes recommendations to the most efficient delivery method. Initiates, performs, and maintains pulse oximetry.
Initiates, maintains appropriately, transports and monitors non-invasive and invasive mechanical ventilators to include all conventional modes of ventilation per policy and procedure. Reviews chest radiology reports as necessary and per policy and procedure.
Proactively initiates process improvement ideas. Assists with clinical instruction and precepting. Supports hospital and department mission, goals, and department metrics. Performs other duties as requested by department leadership.)
