Barnes-Jewish Hospital (BJH), a member of BJC HealthCare, is a nationally renowned, Magnet designated, academic medical center. BJH, with 1,346 licensed beds, and is the affiliated teaching hospital of Washington University School of Medicine (WUSM). BJH was the first adult hospital in MO to be designated as a Magnet Hospital and earned its fourth Magnet designation in 2018. For 26 consecutive years, since the inception of the process, BJH has placed on U.S. News & World Report‘s honor roll of America’s Best Hospitals. The Siteman Cancer Center, at BJH and WUSM, is an international leader in cancer treatment, research, prevention, education and community outreach. It is the only cancer center in Missouri to hold the prestigious Comprehensive Cancer Center designation, The Barnes-Jewish and Washington University Heart & Vascular Center has pioneered many procedures in heart transplantation and vascular surgery. BJH serves as the area’s regional referral center. BJH extends care into the community through its integrated levels of care and provides more than 165 community education events annually. BJH recently went live with EPIC for their EMR. The Executive Director reports directly to Vice President Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer.
The Executive Director, Emergency Department (ED) provides strategic vision and direction as well as effective operation and management of the Emergency Department, Emergency Transport Team and the Trauma Program. Ensures development of staff and systems to provide outstanding patient care and service, meet all regulatory requirements, and achieve success in all key result areas. Partners effectively with physicians and staff to ensure outcomes are achieved. Provides leadership development to nurse managers, lead charge nurses and other management personnel. Accountable for creating a collaborative environment where all members of the healthcare leadership team work in partnership with the advanced practice providers and physicians. Candidates will have expertise in the identification and measurement of key operational metrics and plans for improvement. The Executive Director also partners with key hospital leaders and the community to assure a continuously improving patient experience.
Bachelor’s and Master’s degree, one of which must be in Nursing. Eligible for RN license in MO.
Ten (10) years of progressive management/leadership experience.
Experience leading Emergency Services in a large academic medical center.
Experience with Magnet designation process.
A strategic, flexible leader with knowledge of emerging models of care delivery.
Experience with diverse/underserved populations and building an inclusive environment for patients, families and employees.
Ability to implement an overarching patient care delivery model that meets the needs of BJH patient population.
Demonstrated ability to support leaders to achieve national metrics for hospital indicators.
