The Division of Emergency Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins University seeks candidates for a Nurse Practitioner for the child protection team. The successful applicant will have experience with managing pediatric trauma as well as forensic pediatrics.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
The position will work with the medical director of the child protection service as well as the child protection social work coordinator. The position will include trauma evaluations in the pediatric emergency department, inpatient setting, intensive care units, as well as in the outpatient clinic. This position will be involved in treatment and prescribing medication. Some on-call coverage will be required.
Administrative work that will be required includes case management, meeting with partners in law enforcement and child welfare, testifying in court, and providing education to Children's Center staff on child protection issues.

Master's degree in nursing; Registered Nurse license and Certified as a Nurse Practitioner. Must be licensed as NP in State of Maryland or other state where practicing. Pediatric nurse practitioners with acute care experience/education with at least five years of relevant experience preferred. Current CPR certification required. Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment. Completion of the JHH credentialing process is required prior to start date
Sitting, standing and walking for extended period. Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s). Ability to move standard equipment through a hospital or clinical environment.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
