The PGY-2 Pediatric Residency program at the Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters will provide a learning experience to further develop a PGY-1 resident in pediatric patient care and pharmacotheapeutics with a primary focus in critical care and emergency care.
Overview of The Program:
Graduates will be prepared to pursue an advanced level practice position in pediatric critical care, neonatal critical care or pediatric emergency medicine and pass the Pediatric BPS exam
Required rotations will include PICU, NICU, Emergency Medicine/Trauma, General Pediatrics and Hematology/Oncology
Longitudinal rotations include administration, committees, research, medication safety and antibiotic stewardship
The resident will have the opportunity to participate in health care rounds in all critical care and acute care rotations with attending and resident physicians from the Eastern Virginia Medical School
The residency will provide teaching opportunities including precepting PGY-1 residents and pharmacy students and providing education to the pharmacy and medical staff
An optional teaching certificate will be available
Resident will provide a limited amount of staffing
Members of the pharmacist staff are credentialed by Medical Staff allowing for prescribing of selective antibiotics and parenteral nutrition. The Pharmacy department is affiliated with Virginia Commonwealth University School of Pharmacy.
Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy required
Virginia Pharmacy License or eligibility for licensure within 90 days of hire
Completion of a PGY-1 pharmacy residence (preferred with an emphasis in pediatrics), curriculum vitae and 3 letters of recommendation are required.
