North Shore University Hospital (NSUH) is one of the cornerstones of the Northwell Health System. It offers a wide range of specialty and subspecialty residency programs, postgraduate training programs and clinical fellowships for research and education. The hospital is an 806 bed teaching hospital on the 58-acre Sandra Atlas Bass Campus. NSUH provides leading-edge care in all medical specialties, including openheart surgery, neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, urology and maternal-fetal medicine as well as the first and only kidney and heart transplant centers in Nassau and Queens Counties.
NSUH offers a post-graduate 2 (PGY-2) Pharmacotherapy Residency program, which is currently in the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP) pre-candidate status for accreditation. The 12-month program allows residents to gain experience in a broad set of patient populations. Areas of training in this program include internal medicine, ambulatory care, emergency medicine, transitions of care, antimicrobial stewardship, research and administration. The goal of this program is to prepare pharmacists for the role of a clinical coordinator, and/or faculty member. The resident will have opportunities to foster skills in medication management, direct patient care, verbal / written communication and leadership throughout the residency year.
