The PGY2 Ambulatory Care Residency Program is designed to develop the competencies necessary for specialized practice in ambulatory care pharmacotherapy. The resident will concentrate on developing and refining skills needed to provide expert-level, evidence-based pharmacotherapy in the area of acute and chronic disease management. The Ambulatory Care Residency Program is designed to develop accountability, broaden knowledge base, and enhance practice patterns, thus providing the resident with opportunities to function as an independent practitioner and professional leader in the ambulatory care setting.
Tampa General Medical Group (TGMG) will serve as the primary practice site for residency training. TGMG is a division of Tampa General Hospital (TGH), which includes physicians specializing in internal medicine, family practice, cardiology, digestive disorders, endocrinology, hepatology, nephrology, organ transplantation and surgery. The majority of the resident’s training will include participating in the interdisciplinary team at several of the Level 3 National Committee on Quality Assurance (NCQA) patient-centered medical homes (PCMH) within TGMG. The family care centers serve all ages, from infants to geriatrics, and accept patients with all financial backgrounds. This dynamic patient population provides the resident with a comprehensive primary care experience in multiple disease states, including chronic and acute conditions. Longitudinal experience in the PCMH allows the resident to build rapport with the physicians, nurses, and medical assistants, as well as, increase continuity of care with patients. The resident will be responsible for managing the ambulatory care student program, which includes fourth year pharmacy students from the University of Florida, University of South Florida, and Lake Erie College of Medicine. In addition, the resident will also play a vital role in our progressive transitions of care services provided to TGMG patients discharged from TGH.
Tampa General Hospital (TGH) is a 1,010 bed, private, not for profit teaching institution with the only Level I Trauma Center in West Central Florida and one of four burn centers in the state. With over 130 adult intensive care unit beds and a singular focus of providing the best care to the critically ill, TGH is fertile ground for the training of well-equipped leaders in pharmacotherapy. The resident will become proficient in the hospital’s 340B outpatient pharmacy services, including Meds-to-Beds, discharge transplant, specialty pharmacy, and employee wellness. In addition, the resident has the opportunity to complete unique elective rotations at TGH including emergency medicine, infusion center, and ambulatory care transplant.
Site Special Features: The practice sites includes 14 Level 3 NCQA-certified PCMHs, a 340B outpatient pharmacy, a newly remodeled infusion center, and the only Level I Trauma Center in West Central Florida.

Special Requirements for Acceptance: Licensure in the state of Florida, PharmD degree and completion of a PGY-1 residency or equivalent experience is required.
