The Staff Physician is responsible for providing primary health care to the students of Texas A&M University.
Required Education and Experience:
Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.).
Required Licenses and Certifications:
Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Texas and unrestricted prescriptive authority in the State of Texas; must be maintained as a condition of continued employment.
Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy, community resources in medical treatment, American medical Association ethics and standards, and pharmacology.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to assess symptoms and make an accurate diagnosis.
Ability to prescribe treatment appropriate for patientsâ™ condition and situation.
Ability to apply principles and techniques of modern medicine.
Ability to exert moderate force and lift moderately heavy objects.
Prior experience working in a college health care setting.
Preferred Licenses, Certifications and Registrations:
Board eligible or board certified in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Emergency Medicine.
Current DEA registration.
Current BLS certification.
Responsible for providing primary health care to the students of Texas A&M University. Coordinates treatment plans with other health care providers. Diagnosis illnesses, diseases, and other conditions and provides general medical care. Adheres to relevant local, state and federal laws and judicial decisions applicable to the conduct of professional obligations; remains current on policies and procedures relative to the practice of medicine. Maintains accurate and comprehensive medical records. Meets performance and quality indicators as determined by the Director of Student Health Services, Associate Director for Medical Services and Chief of Medical Staff.
Participates in AAAHC accreditation activities including quality improvement, charting and peer review. Participates in continuing medical education and in-service activities as appropriate. Develops materials to education patients on the management and prevention of illness/injury. Establishes and reviews qualitative and quantitative performance for member of the clinical staff. Provides input for developing policies and procedures. Assists in determining short and long term goals for Student Health Services.
Executes duties of Chief of Medical Staff if requested by the Director of Student Health Services. Performs other duties as assigned.
