Residency Program Goals: The critical care pharmacy residency program is a 12-month program designed to prepare its graduates to assume positions in adult critical care, emergency medicine/trauma services in an urban teaching facility, similar to that of Truman Medical Centers (TMC).
Program Details: Required rotations include critical care medicine, trauma and surgical intensive care, emergency medicine, and infectious disease with elective opportunities in NICU/PICU, metabolic support, neurosurgical intensive care, pain management, solid organ transplant and cardiology services. There is also the opportunity to complete our teaching certificate program for those that have not already done so. Additionally, they will serve as a preceptor and mentor to pharmacy students and PGY-1 residents.
Facility details: TMC is the primary teaching hospital for the University of Missouri-Kansas City Schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy located in downtown Kansas City, Missouri (KCMO). TMC has three intensive care units totaling 31-beds that care for critically ill surgical, cardiac, and medical patients managed by board certified pulmonary/critical care intensivists using a multidisciplinary approach. TMCs Trauma Center is one of three adult Level I Trauma Centers in KCMO and is part of a statewide trauma system. The Emergency Department (ED) provides care for approximately 69,000 patients per year in a 52-bed unit, (including three trauma rooms).
Requirements: Missouri license (or eligible), letter of interest, college of pharmacy transcripts, Curriculum Vitae and written case presentation (PowerPoint presentation is the preferred format for the case presentation and will need to be uploaded as a PDF file for PhORCAS). The case presentation will be presented during the on-site interview. Lastly, 3 references to complete the standard PhORCAS form. We ask that the reference writers complete the four questions that are optional in PhORCAS and include the same quantity and quality of information that they would normally include in a traditional letter of recommendation in their responses to these questions.
