The purpose of Borgess’ postgraduate year one (PGY1) residency program is to build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.
The program focuses primarily on hospital-based pharmacy, with elective ambulatory care experiences available as well. The six-week internal medicine rotation will be scheduled first, following a two-week infectious diseases lecture block. All other rotations are 4 weeks. Residents will complete their required rotations at Borgess Medical Center. Longitudinal rotations typically extend the duration of the residency experience. Residents are permitted to complete a one-month elective at a non-Borgess institution, if the experience can be arranged. Required rotations can also be repeated as electives, provided the emphasis changes.
