Posting Summary: The Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Virginia seeks applicants for a tenure-eligible or tenure-ineligible faculty position. We seek highly motivated and talented EM Physicians with interest in becoming a faculty member in the Department of Emergency Medicine with a focus on pediatric medicine. The selected individuals will work with faculty members and the Chair on advance clinical care, education, research, and innovation in the care of children in the emergency department. This position carries a faculty appointment in the School of Medicine at the University of Virginia, and will include clinical hours within the department of emergency medicine pediatrics area and if boarded in adult emergency medicine, then clinical hours in the main emergency medicine area as well. Rank and tenure status are dependent upon qualifications.
Faculty will also have protected time to support scholarly pursuits. Applicants must be interested in advancing their academic career by joining a diverse and highly accomplished faculty. The successful candidate will demonstrate a desire to excel clinically and pursue research and leadership opportunities for professional development.
The Department of Emergency Medicine has a significant training commitment. There is an established emergency medicine residency program and there are fellowships in Medical Toxicology, EMS, Cardiovascular Emergencies, Ultrasound, Trauma, Administration, and Education. The UVA Health System is a 700 bed tertiary care and Level 1 trauma center with an annual census of 60,000 located at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Charlottesville, Virginia, a city that has consistently been rated as one of the best places to live in the U.S.
Candidates must have an M.D. or D.O. and be board-eligible or board-certified in pediatric emergency medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine, the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine, , or American board of pediatrics(ABP). The successful applicants must be emergency medicine or pediatrics residency trained and have completed fellowship training in pediatrics emergency medicine. Candidates who are currently board-certified, but not fellowship trained, in pediatric emergency medicine, who have devoted a significant portion of their careers to the care of children in the emergency department are also encouraged to apply.
