North Florida Regional Medical Center (NFRMC) is a 445-bed, full-service medical and surgical acute care center in Gainesville, FL. The residency in pharmacy practice being offered North Florida Regional Medical Center is a 52-week post-PharmD. training program beginning in July of each year. This program, in following the guidelines of the ASHP Accreditation, places emphasis on the practice of pharmaceutical care.
The PGY1 pharmacy residency program is an organized and directed program following ASHP Accreditation Standards. Residents should expect an experience that enhances general competencies in managing medication-use systems and supports optimal medication therapy outcomes for patients with a broad range of disease states. Graduates of the PGY1 residency program should expect to be prepared to pursue board certification.
The purpose of the residency is to provide educational and training experiences for pharmacists in the fundamentals of contemporary pharmacy practice and to foster skills in leadership, communication, and mentorship. Through various pharmacy experiences and segments, the residency instills a philosophy of practice that embraces the concept that pharmacists must be responsible and accountable for optimum drug therapy outcomes.
The residency is predicated on development of the knowledge, attitudes and skills required to develop the resident’s competence to provide pharmaceutical care. In order to provide training in all aspects of contemporary pharmacy practice, the resident shall complete organized rotations which provide training and help ensure the resident meets ASHP standard goals and objectives.
The Pharmacy Practice Residency at NFRMC is designed to provide the resident with broad experiences in the inpatient and outpatient settings to develop the clinical and interpersonal skills necessary to excel independently in practice. Rotation Experiences include Adult Medicine, Administration, Ambulatory Care, Cardiology, Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, Emergency Medicine Consulting, Geriatrics, Hospital Practice, Infectious Diseases, Medication Safety, Neonatal Intensive Care, Surgery, Transitions of Care, Teaching and completing a Research Project.
Applicants will be reviewed, interviewed, and considered for hire based on the following criteria:
PharmD or equivalent experience
Eligible for licensure in Florida
On-site interview of selected applicants
Letter of intent
College of pharmacy transcripts
Three letters of recommendation
