Mayo Clinic Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota offers a PGY2 Emergency Medicine Pharmacy Residency for practitioners who seek advanced training in emergency medicine. The resident will practice in the Emergency Department (ED) at St. Mary's Campus, an 1,265-bed Level 1 trauma center. There is a broad range of adult, pediatric, trauma and geriatric patients with approximately 80,000 ED visits each year. Focus of pharmacy practice is on direct bed-side patient care and identification of drug-related problems; response to electronic notification of alerts for trauma, cardiac arrest, stroke, severe sepsis and procedural sedation; provision of pharmacotherapeutic and toxicologic consultation as well as development of guidelines for pharmacotherapeutic issues in the ED. Experience will also be gained in toxicology, EMS and from an extensive range of ICU rotations. The resident obtains ACLS provider and instructor certification; participate in Code Blue responses, and interdisciplinary simulation training. The resident will be required to complete a quality improvement project, a publishable research project and provide continuing education. Online staffing required.
