Washington & Jefferson College invites applications for an Ethics and Compliance Officer. This position will report to the President . The Ethics and Compliance Officer will provide college-wide oversight and coordination of an institutional ethics and compliance program that promotes the highest standards of ethics, integrity, and responsibility at W&J.
Role and Responsibilities
Develop, coordinate and provide oversight of the College's Ethics and Compliance Program to assure compliance with legal, regulatory, policy and ethical requirements impacting the College.
Develop, revise as necessary and monitor implementation of the College's Ethics and Compliance plan, consistent with higher education emerging best practices.
Responsible for overseeing institutional compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of the 1972 Civil Rights Act ("Title IX"), the Violence Against Women Act Reauthorization of 2013 ("VAWA"), the Campus Sexual Violence Elimination Act ("Campus SaVE"), and other related federal and state laws.
Serves as a point of contact with management to determine when legal advice is warranted.
Work efficiently and effectively with outside counsel to coordinate legal review of documents.
Provide oversight of Ethics and Compliance risk assessment.
Develop, revise as necessary and monitor implementation of Ethics and Compliance program policies.
Collaborate with other college resources to provide training and education related to ethical workplace conduct, responsibilities, and leadership;
Assure that questions and concerns raised are promptly and appropriately addressed.
Provide oversight of all Ethics and Compliance related investigations, working with outside counsel as needed.
Provide oversight for periodic, independent assessment of the effectiveness of the Ethics and Compliance program.
Apprise the President and senior staff about the College's Ethics and Compliance Program; trends, issues, and best practices in ethics and compliance programs.
Remains relevant and current with Title IX related developments and changes. Keeps abreast with current federal and state laws, regulations, and policies related to discriminatory practices based on sex or gender discrimination.
Provide oversight for reputational risk - Other ethics and compliance related matters that pose a high probability of garnering significant negative publicity or media attention.
Work closely with Human Resources, Academic Affairs, Student Life, and other College administrators.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in ethics and compliance or related issues;
Knowledge of local, state, and federal employment, civil rights, and higher education laws;
Experience conducting investigations related to ethics and compliance;
Demonstrated leadership experience in financial, legal, and/or compliance;
Demonstrated ability to comprehend and apply federal, state, and local legislation;
Ability to develop and/or interpret complex regulatory or legal documents;
Ability to communicate complex compliance and ethics concepts to administrators, faculty, staff, and students; and
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Previous experience in an educational setting preferred.
Professional ethics; ability to maintain confidentiality and work within a team environment.
Adapt willingly and quickly to changing priorities, responsibilities, administration, faculty and staff needs and expectations; anticipate and identify institutional needs.
