St. Catherine University invites applications for the position of Assistant Director in Disability Resources in the O’Neill Center for Academic Development on the St. Paul campus. This 12-month position (1.00 FTE) exists to support the O’Neill Center in its mission to provide academic support for a diverse student population. The position of Assistant Director is primarily responsible for the delivery of academic accommodations and academic support to students with disabilities.
Reporting to the Director of the O’Neill Center, the Assistant Director monitors and coordinates the provision of a wide range of services to a large caseload of students with a variety of disabilities. In addition the Assistant Director is responsible for the training of, consultation with and support of faculty and staff of the university. The incumbent serves as a valued resource to staff and faculty, advises faculty on best practices for working with students with disabilities, sits on interdisciplinary committees and schedules interpreters for deaf/hard or hearing students. Carrying out other duties as assigned, the Assistant Director works cooperatively and collaboratively with staff of the O’Neill Center and partners with faculty and staff across the university to implement a vision for the office of Disability Resources, to address the learning needs of students, and to fulfill the mission of the O’Neill Center and the university.
Bachelor’s degree and three years minimum experience with assistive technology related to accommodations for students with disabilities and post-secondary students, especially students with a wide range of disabilities is required. Graduate degree in Special Education, Rehabilitation Counseling or related field preferred.
Experience applying Federal law as it pertains to individuals with disabilities
An understanding of a range of disabilities including but not limited to: Attention Deficit Disorder, Learning Disabilities, Psychiatric issues, Physical and Sensory disabilities, Traumatic Brain Injury
Experience working with students or clients of diverse cultures and age groups
Ability to envision, create and implement new programs and approaches to support the university’s requirements and meet emerging needs of students.
Experience providing work direction to others and excellent interpersonal skills required.
Ability to work well as part of a team and demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty, administration, students and the wider community of disability service providers
Demonstrated ability to communicate well in speech and writing
Experience in Microsoft Office Suite, Lotus Notes, a web management program, and D2L.
