Under direct supervision of the clinic manager and the general supervision of the clinic providers and licensed nursing staff, performs work which requires specific knowledge and training in patient care duties within business and professions code of the State of California and/or the regulations The Joint Commission (TJC). These duties also include but are not limited to: scheduling of patient appointments and associated patient system screens; accurate billing; environmental care functions; equipment/supply management; and cleaning/disinfecting the environment.
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) OR Certificate of completion of a Medical Assistant training program.
BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART w/in 6 months of hire date.
Prior experience as a Medical Assistant in an Ambulatory care setting.
Knowledge in medical terminology, on-line scheduling, universal precautions, and proper use of body mechanics.
Ability to take initiative, prioritize demands and work in a team environment.
Experience in direct patient care; demonstrated skills in accurately taking and recording vital signs, height and weight; administering medication including injections; interviewing patients; and collecting specimens.
Demonstrated knowledge of the normal range of values for vital signs, emergency procedures, and of basic lab and infection control procedures; standard items used to stock exam rooms.
Demonstrated knowledge of the patient flow process in order to efficiently monitor appointments, patients and available physicians.
General knowledge of pharmaceuticals and able to process PARs.
Possess the personal characteristics of professionalism, credibility, commitment to high standards, innovation, discriminating judgment and accountability.
Willing to work overtime as required.
Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
