Position Summary: Under the direction of the Senior Director of Prospect Management and Research, the Associate Director, Prospect Management will be responsible for performing a wide range of prospect development services including, but not limited to, prospect identification, data and trend analysis, electronic wealth screening analysis, pipeline analysis, data mining, portfolio optimization, and detailed prospect research. He/she will also contribute to executive research needs on an as-needed basis. The Associate Director, Prospect Management will develop strategies and encourage effective research and prospect management efforts that are forward-looking, capitalizing on emerging technologies and existing resources. He/she will meet regularly with client groups and informally survey those we support to ensure needs are being met.
Position Responsibilities: The Associate Director, Prospect Management reports to the Senior Director of Prospect Management & Research and partners with various development and alumni relations colleagues to build the university's major gift pipeline. The Associate Director also collaborates with graduate assistants and federal work-study students in the completion of their assignments and projects.
Portfolio and Pipeline Analytics (30% of time):
Conduct portfolio and pipeline building analytics informed by (and to help inform) the division's overall fundraising goals and specific school/college/unit fundraising goals
Undertake analytical efforts to identify areas of prospect engagement opportunity and inform proactive research activities
Establish and apply prospect pyramids, develop gift tables that show proposal stages of readiness, and shape analysis and metrics used to measure portfolio and pipeline performance, prospect assignments, proposals, ratings, and other data
Screenings (30% of time):
Conduct electronic screening projects to proactively identify potential prospects for the university's funding priorities, including cross-unit initiatives and capital projects
Guide constituent list segmentation and lead analysis in tracking and reporting on screening results
Major/Priority Research (20% of time):
Craft comprehensive profiles and briefing materials to help inform engagement and solicitation strategy development for YU's major and principal gift prospects, with a specific focus at any given time on the university's major funding priorities
Select Executive Support (10% of time):
At the request of the Senior Director of Prospect Management and Research, develop comprehensive profiles, data sets, and other briefing materials to support select advancement activities of the President, Vice President, Assistant Vice Presidents, and academic leadership
Special Projects (10% of time):
Participate in, or at times lead, divisional trainings relating to Research and Prospect Management; as assigned by the Sr. Director of Prospect Management and Research, complete other prospect research, data analytics, and portfolio management duties that support the division of Development and Alumni Relations
Experience & Educational Background:
Bachelor's degree required
At least five years of experience in prospect research and management or similar positions involving data analytics, data mining, biographical/genealogical research or financial research
Experience with proactive fundraising management and research techniques and best practices
Experience using online databases such as LexisNexis, WealthEngine, Foundation Directory, Foundation Search, and iWave. Ability to analyze and interpret SEC documents
Experience interpreting and analyzing data, using insights to achieve desired outcomes;
Experience in higher education advancement a plus
Skills & Competencies:
Excellent oral and written communication skills demonstrated by clear, concise, and persuasive writing, public speaking, and private discourse
Excellent interpersonal communication skills and a demonstrated experience successfully working with persons from diverse backgrounds
Proficiency in MS Word (merges, advanced formatting), MS Excel (including filtering, equations), and MS Access (queries, mail merges, forms)
Ability to use discretion when working with highly confidential information
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a deadline-oriented environment
