Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Physician Assistant – Surgical for the Department of Obstetrics/Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
The Physician Assistant (PA) assigned to the Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (FPMRS) service will be expected to function as an active member of the FPMRS patient care team. Responsibilities will be assigned on the hospital floors, in the operating room, and when required, in the outpatient area and the emergency department. In all instances, the PA will be under the general supervision of the head of the Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery service or the “Assigned Supervising Physician” (ASP), when such assignments are made by the department chief. The Physician Assistant (PA) will provide a consistency of care of patients and participate in orientation when new members of the house staff rotate on the service.
Performs history and physical examination in preparation for pelvic surgery/procedures and document findings in the patient’s record.
Orders preoperative medication and appropriate laboratory, radiologic and special diagnostic tests required for a complete preoperative evaluation.
Interprets and reports findings to attending physician and resident staff.
Communicates with office staff regarding the appropriate scheduling needs and arrangements for surgery.
Notifies the FPMRS/GYN about any changes in the patient's immediate preoperative and intraoperative condition.
Participates in daily patient care rounds with resident staff to determine the overall and daily plan of care.
Communicates with the office staff to arrange for the follow-up visits and tests which may be necessary.
Prepares patient for discharge, writes prescriptions and discharge/transfer orders.
Performs postoperative examination of the patient in the office or emergency department setting.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Master's degree in Health Sciences or a related field.
Graduation from a Physician Assistant Program approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
Certification from the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
New Jersey licensed from the State Board of Medical Examiners-Physician Assistant Advisory Committee.
In the case of a new graduate, all requirements must be met prior to employment.
Prior experience in clinical medicine.
