Johns Hopkins University, Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases is seeking to recruit Nurse Practitioners for contracted positions at the Baltimore City Health Department Sexual Health Clinics. We seek nurse practitioners with an interest in promotion of sexual health, sexual health education and counseling, and testing and treatment of sexually transmitted infections.
The Nurse Practitioners will work as providers at the Sexual Health clinics as part of a multidisciplinary team including physician assistants, patient navigators, social workers, point of care laboratory staff, phlebotomists, public health disease intervention specialists, and academic researchers. Nurse practitioners will work independently under the supervision of the STD medical director, an attending physician.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Clinic- based evaluation of patients, including detailed sexual history taking of sexual practices, sexual partners, risk factors for sexually transmitted infection, and contraception
Focused physical examination including male and female genitourinary examination, pelvic examination
Collection of patient specimens including urethral, vaginal, cervical, and pharyngeal swabs for gram stain, wet mount, culture, nucleic acid testing, and PAP smear/cytology
Ordering of relevant lab testing for STD evaluation
Counseling of patients regarding explanation of diagnosis and treatment, risk reduction for sexually transmitted infections and HIV
Administer appropriate treatment for sexually transmitted infection
Refer patients as indicated to primary care, family planning, HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis care, and other community services
Participate in quality improvement initiatives of clinic operations
Assist in precepting of a variety of learners including medical students, nurse practitioner and PA students, residents, fellows, and other health care professionals
Participate in research activities authorized by BCHD
Provides Emergency Services to the Baltimore City Health Department as needed
Performs related tasks as assigned.
Master's degree in nursing; Registered Nurse license and Certified as a Nurse Practitioner. Must be licensed as NP in State of Maryland or other state where practicing. Current CPR certification required. Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment. Completion of the JHH credentialing process is required prior to start date.

Knowledge of STD disease, treatments, and resources
Sensitivity in providing care to racially, ethnically, culturally and sexually diverse populations
Ability to work in multidisciplinary, multi-organizational team setting
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and follow through
Knowledge of spoken Spanish is preferred (but not required)
Sitting, standing and walking for extended period. Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s). Ability to move standard equipment through a hospital or clinical environment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
