West Coast University, a private university with the singular focus of educating health care professionals, is currently seeking Assistant Professor/Associate/Full Professor in the areas of Ambulatory Care, Internal Medicine, and Emergency Medicine for the Pharmacy Practice Department. Rank will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. Reporting directly to the Department Chair, the individuals provide program specific expertise and are actively engaged in all department initiatives.
Primary responsibilities will include developing and delivering didactic education in the professional PharmD program.
The candidate will be required to develop and maintain a clinical practice in the area of Ambulatory Care/Internal Medicine/Emergency Medicine.
Supports University and/or School of Pharmacy mission and goals in order to assure compliance with programmatic accreditation and/or licensure, internal consistency, and graduate outcomes that meet workplace and placement expectations.
Engages in scholarly/research activities as specifically defined and expected at the departmental level.
Provides professional leadership and service at the national, state, or community levels, serves as a teacher, role model, mentor and facilitator; and enables an educational environment; which fosters creativity, responsiveness, and self-responsibility.
Applicants must have a PharmD degree OR a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy plus 10 years professional experience in the areas of expertise or practice.
Must have a documented background in educational methodology consistent with teaching assignments including but not limited to education theory and practice, current concepts relative to specific subjects he or she will be teaching, current clinical practice experience, and distance education techniques and delivery.
Faculty must have met residency requirements (post graduate year 1 and/or post graduate year 2) in different specialty areas (such as ambulatory care and/or acute care, etc.) or equivalent clinical experience in any of the following specialty areas - Ambulatory care, acute care, community, general/internal medicine, geriatrics.
The successful candidate must show potential for excellence as an educator and scholar.
Current California Registered Pharmacist License, Pharmacy Board License is required or other current professional licensure by state or national board if applicable.
If clinical faculty does not have a current license, a valid California license to practice pharmacy is required within 12 months from date of hire at employee’s own cost.
Must meet and maintain the qualifications and standards set forth by the California Board of Pharmacy.
Must meet and maintain the qualifications and standards set forth by any accreditation body that West Coast University is accredited by or in process of obtaining accreditation from, for area of expertise and expectations of faculty member as set forth in regulatory documents.
Must maintain any professional certifications deemed necessary to meet the requirements of the teaching role.
Current Driver’s License.
Previous post-doctoral and/or relevant academic experience is preferred.
Doctor of Pharmacy or Bachelor of Science plus 10 years professional experience in the areas of expertise or practice.
Knowledge of state, federal and local laws/regulations relating to programs, governmental compliance and other regulatory standards such as ACPE , NABP, WASC, California Board of Pharmacy or other regulators and/or accreditation bodies.
