This position is in the Department of Neurology. The position is located at Center 40 Building.
Position functions as a Medical Assistant to physicians and clinical staff in the Center 40 Neurology Sleep Center. Works with current Medical Assistants and prepares, maintains and stocks exam rooms, maintains adequate patient flow of the clinic and determines priority when patients need to be seen. Obtains V/S, lab draws, and orders ancillary tests when ordered here in the clinic. Downloads CPAP/BIPAP equipment and documents in Allscripts. Alerts physician to abnormal readings as required. Informs physicians when patients are ready to be seen. Assist physicians with equipment when needed. Assist patients with paperwork and chart preparation. Provides support to Medical Records with filling and chart preparation for clinic. Has a basic understanding of polysomnography and sleep medicine. Floats to Front Desk to assist with check in and check out when needed.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepares charts, exam rooms and monitors multiple physician schedules. Maintains patient flow and assists patients with paperwork and intervenes in order to keep patient/physicians on schedule. Works with other Medical Assistant during clinic hours when patients should be seen out of order to maintain adequate flow in order to keep the physicians on schedule with clinic.
Assist physicians, nurses and other medical/clinical staff when needed.
Downloads data from CPAP /BIPAP machines and documents CPAP/BIPAP pressures readings.
Assists physicians, medical and nursing staff when needed with paperwork, appropriate phone calls, faxing and coping of material.
Compute data entry and able to perform accurate documentation of work performed in current Allscripts.
Stocking and maintaining exam rooms.
Make certain all paperwork is complete and ready for the physician prior to seeing the patient.
Assists physicians with clinic procedures as needed.
High school diploma or GED; a Registered or Certified Medical Assistant with a minimum of 6 months of related work experience (examples of related fields include military medic, emergency medical technicians, Nurse’s Aide, physical therapy and nurse technicians, and certified athletic trainers); substitutions include
Medical Assistant certification/registration eligible with successful completion of certification exam within 6 months of hire date or within a shorter time frame if noted by hiring manager.
Graduate of an accredited nursing program (such as RN/LPN), or comparable allied health training program with a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.
Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).
2 years of related work experience (examples of related fields include military medic, emergency medical technicians, Nurse’s Aide, physical therapy and nurse technicians, and certified athletic trainers).
Able to work with a multidisciplinary staff of physicians, nurses, patients and support staff.
Must have strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
The hiring range for this position is $14.17 - $17.35 per hour.
