Vet Care Tech-Tier II-Surgery: Work involves assisting a veterinarian in technical procedures and activities involving animal health and disease within a specialty area of the Veterinary Medical Center including surgery (LA/SA), equine medicine, Internal Medicine, cardiology, ophthalmology, oncology, rehabilitation, radiology and farm animal; performs a variety of animal care responsibilities under the close supervision of a VCT Supervisor and clinical veterinarians. Specific duties will be determined by assigned area of responsibility and may involve floating or cross-training through various areas to develop skills and technique.
Successful candidate assist team clinicians and care-giving colleagues with the reception, treatment, and monitoring of all patients within the Surgery unit. Additionally, the successful candidates will oversee and instruct professional veterinary students in preparation of animals and equipment for medical procedures and delivery of care. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: organizes, directs, and provides helpful and collegial assistance to professional students, clinicians, residents, and technical students during receiving appointment hours; coordinates with reception; assists with patient exams; prepares and labels specimens; assists with receiving surgical emergencies, client communication with phone calls and release instructions; prepares animals and equipment for surgery (clips, shaves and scrubs body area for operation); sets up appropriate equipment and instruments for each case; prepares labels specimens obtained in surgery; assists surgeons during surgical procedures using aseptic techniques; cleans and disinfects operating rooms, equipment and related areas; demonstrates and observes veterinary students in operating room procedures; and other duties as assigned.
The successful candidates will be expected to work 40 hours a week on first shift between the hours of 9:00am and 6:00pm with required on-call hours. Successful candidate must be a Registered Veterinary Technician in the state of Ohio and complete a background check.

Degree from an accredited veterinary technology program or an associate's degree or bachelor's degree; completed and successfully passed VTNE prior to hire date; State of Ohio Registered Veterinary Technician (Required) at the time of hire.
3 to 4 years of previous RVT experience including a combination of RVT and Veterinary Assistant or clinical veterinary hospital support; previous experience as a Veterinary Care Technician – Tier 1; previous experience working in the designated specialty.
