Basic Responsibilities - Contract employees shall have sufficient training/experience to be able to perform the required duties which include, but not limited to the following:?
Perform complex Doppler examinations of the heart structures?
Perform electrocardiograms and endurance tests using recording media?
Performs Transthoracic Echocardiograms (TTE)?
Performs three and four dimensional echocardiography?
Performs echocardiograms to the standards set by the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE)?
Distribute copies of tests to appropriate clinics and physician?
Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation and uses defibrillator?
Perform daily crash cart checks in accordance with department policy and standard operating procedures?
Receives and reviews request for ultrasound examination from physicians?
Determines type of procedures required and appropriate format of examination?
Explains examining process to patients?
Positions patients properly as to record best possible images?
Sets up, adjusts, and maintains equipment so that examinations are of the highest possible quality?
Perform detailed examinations modifying the type of examination based on pathology discovered during procedure
Informs physician of any aspects of examination that may have a bearing on the diagnosis or treatment of patients?
Uses judgment in requesting physician interaction in procedures?
Assures patients about nature of examination?
Assists patients with disrobing and positioning?
Attaches electrodes, microphone, ultra-probes, and other equipment as necessary?
Conducts tests according to operation of machine to defect artifacts and correct before proceeding with examination?
Examines critically ill patients in the special care units of the MTF?
Continually monitors patients response to the examination and procedure?
May render emergency CPR or other aid as required; summons assistance from other medical personnel?
Request presence of a physician or nurse during procedure to assist in safe patient examinations?
Records identification data and transmit record to physical for interpretation
Cuts and mounts tracings or obtains computerized printout for inclusion in medical records?
Maintains log of patient visits and types of procedures performed?
Packs, unpacks, loads, and unloads equipment and assists in setting up equipment when necessary?
Performs operator maintenance on equipment and accessories?
Assist is the shadowing of students in equipment use, procedures, and interpretations of echocardiographic images?
Provides diagnostic cardiac ultrasound images of both inpatient and outpatient adults and children under the age of 18 year?
Performs invasive diagnostic procedures such as intravenous contract injections and stress treadmill echocardiography?
Accompanies physician for performance of special procedures in the treadmill room?
Utilizes echocardiographic scanner to properly position patients for procedures?
Advises physicians on results of interventions performed during procedures
Attentive to the entire invasive procedure, advising of any problems, anomalies, or unexpected conditions found as a result of the examination?
Performs at a minimum eight(8) echocardiographs per day as when the patient load is available
May be required to endure constant sitting and/or considerable standing in a designated area for prolonged period of times, considerable bending, occasional lifting of patients and ability to exert considerable effort to push heavy equipment to patient examination areas throughout the hospital.
Will require considerable dexterity and manual skill in performing examinations
The work environment may include patient care areas which may result in exposure to infectious or contagious diseases, odors, or other risks that may occasionally require special health and safety precautions.
Echo Techs may be exposed to excessive heat generated by equipment.
Qualifications - Online Training is not acceptable
Must be formally trained in cardiac sonography and be a registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer
Must have knowledge of cardiac and vascular anatomy and physiology
Must have knowledge of M-mode and two dimensional echocardiographic imaging, along with pulse-wave, continuous wave, and color Doppler ultrasound
Ability to locate and quantify cardiac and vascular abnormalities
Must be able to obtain and maintain a successful child care background check
Must pass and maintain drug abuse testing
Must have a minimum of one (1) year experience prior to employment
Must exercise a positive helpful demeanor, military courtesy, and tact under stressful conditions
Shall have current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) by way of an American Heart Association approved training program.
Echo Tech shall be a U.S. Citizen or otherwise meet the requirements of AR 25-2
Shall be able to read, write, and speak English well enough to effectively communicate with patients and other healthcare providers
