BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:To direct, evaluate, coordinate, plan, organize and facilitate the operational, financial, clinical, quality improvement and personnel activities of Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) for the UW campus of UW Medical Center and for the Northwest Hospital campus which will be known as UWMC Northwest Campus beginning January 2020. This position will also collaborate with Harborview Medical Center on UW Medicine initiatives of mutual interest. To provide direction, coordination and leadership to all Patient Food Service, Clinical Nutrition, and Retail Services provided to patients, visitors, faculty and staff at two hospital locations.CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Directs all aspects of Food and Nutrition services. Maintains high standards of customer service orientation. Identifies system and departmental goals and develops policies and procedures consistent with UW Medicine and UWMC hospital goals and objectives.Directly supervises key leadership and program support staff in the departments. Makes decisions on hiring of key senior leadership team members in food and nutrition and participates in the selection of key manager and supervisor positions for hospital food service departments. Participates in corrective and disciplinary actions, promotions etc., for all FNS leadership team members. Reviews all corrective actions that involve potential FNS employee termination.Interview, select, and develop training programs for new staff. Schedule, conduct annual performance evaluations, and evaluate competency of assigned staff.Develops annual Food and Nutrition Services budgets for each FNS department. Controls and monitors expenditures. Maintains fiscal accountability. Develops annual Capital Budget recommendations. Implements capital expenditure projects. Develops recommendations for standardization and cost reduction.May be a member and/or chair of various UW Medicine and hospital committees. Prepare report presentations as needed.Assures compliance with JCAHO, Department of Health, and other regulatory requirements. Assures adherence to all Regulatory Code of Washington (RCW's) and Washington Administrative Codes (WAC's) related to food and nutrition services.Responds to and handles patient, staff or public complaints and grievances related to areas of responsibility.Serve as a resource person to other health care professionals and to the community.Responsive to 24/7 medical center emergency call as available.Performs other duties as requested by supervisor or other UW Medicine executive personnel.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:A Master's Degree in dietetics, food and nutrition, health care administration, business, hotel/restaurant management or related field. Five years of senior management experience directing Food and Nutrition Services in large complex medical centers. Additional related experience may substitute for the Master's Degree. Registration with The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics preferred.Experience managing multi-site operations preferred.Experience managing major food service construction/remodeling projects preferred.
