Sierra Nevada College is currently seeking to fill the position of Athletic Trainer:
The Athletic Trainer (ATC) will report directly to the Athletic Director. The ATC will work closely with all athletes to deliver the six domains of athletic training (Prevent, Protect, Evaluate, Assess, Rehabilitate, and Counsel).
Develop overall sports medicine program for the College, including: injury prevention programs, injury assessments, injury management, injury treatment and rehabilitation, policies and procedures, educational programs and counseling for student-athletes.
Provide athletic training services for the College’s athletic department, including attendance at scheduled team practices and home and away competitions as necessary.
Provide medical services within the Nevada state license scope of practice, including and not limited to: injury assessment and treatment, injury rehabilitation and reconditioning, and after hours/on-call consultation and injury/illness management.
Provide risk minimization through identification, analysis, assessment, control and avoidance or elimination of unacceptable risks involving the following: injury prevention and care policies, environmental monitoring, emergency action plans, mental health counseling referrals, nutrition suggestions and referral, design and application of preventative and post-injury taping, bracing and padding, make appropriate play/no-play decisions, infection control, facilitate pre-participation examinations, apply appropriate sport coverage in accordance to AMCIA recommendations, substance abuse management.
Create and revise policies and procedures for the sports medicine department.
Use communication and interpersonal skills to create trust between student-athletes, coaches, administrators and the athletic training staff.
Maintain certification in CPR/AED/Airway Management.
Maintain national certification through the NATABOC and maintain Nevada state licensure.
Coordinate and schedule physical examinations and medical referrals for student-athletes to determine their ability to practice and compete.
Work in conjunction with coaching staff to ensure safety in the design and implementation of fitness, nutrition and conditioning programs customized to meet individual student-athlete needs.
Responsible for all medical documentation of student athletic-related injuries. Maintain confidentiality of documentation.
Maintain sports medicine team relations through coordinating on-campus physician clinics and/or event coverage, triaging student-athlete and faculty/staff injuries/illnesses to determine if patient needs referral to physician, and scheduling student-athlete (and faculty/staff) appointments for physician evaluation, laboratory, imaging studies and surgery.
Create and update Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) for each venue, working with appropriate sports medicine team, college and public safety agencies.
Assists in creation of drug testing policy and serve as point of contact for NAIA drug testing program.
Perform other duties as assigned
Bachelor’s degree in appropriate area of specialization and 2 – 5 years professional experience.
Certified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC)
Nevada State Athletic Training Licensure
Excellent communication skills
Familiarity with NAIA, MCLA and USCSA governing rules
Able to work nights and weekends
Will require travel
Valid driver license
