Texas Health Plano's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is the first in Collin County and in Texas Health Resources to earn the state's highest designation — Level IV — meaning the hospital is capable of providing the highest level of care available to our smallest patients.
A Level IV NICU cares for infants born at all stages of pregnancy, including the most complex cases and critically ill babies. The unit cares for babies as small as about 14.1 oz. (400 grams) and 22 weeks' gestation.

Qualified candidates for the full time Neonatal ICU RN will possess the following:
Associates degree in nursing is minimum.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. - RNs hired after January 2017 require completion of BSN within 2 years of start date. RNs hired between January 2014 and December 2016 require completion of BSN within 3 years of start date.
Required minimum experience:
One (1) year experience as a clinical nurse (RN), or completion of an RN residency program.
Level III or Level IV Neonatal ICU RN experience within the last 2 years is strongly preferred.
Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire; Current AHA BLS/CPR certification upon hire.
Credentials specific to specialty as defined:
- NRP certifications within 6 months of hire if not current
Required skills (if applicable):
A high degree of confidentiality, positive interpersonal skills, and ability to function in a fast-paced environment.

(Must obtain BSN within 2 years from date of hire) Minimum of 2 years or more recent Level III Neonatal ICU (NICU) experience (from within the last 2 years) as a RN STABLE certification is helpful Flexibility with schedule Prefer 3-5 years level III NICU and delivery attendance experience preferred. * Neonatal Certification within 2 years of hire. * Basic computer skills/knowledge - Microsoft Word and Outlook; computerized charting on EPIC/Care Connect * Excellent communication and customer service skills
- This is for a 45-bed Level IV Neonatal ICU. - 24/7 Neonatologist coverage - Nitric and total body cooling The unit features advanced care such as total body cooling, which lowers the chance of brain damage for term newborns when pregnancy complications arise without warning and delivery of the baby is necessary. Caregivers in the unit include experienced multidisciplinary surgeons on the medical staff who perform gastrointestinal and laser eye surgeries on the tiny babies, as well as many other highly complex procedures. Physicians on the medical staff also include a pediatric cardiologist and a pediatric pulmonologist.
