University of Washington Medical Center's Employee Health Clinic has an outstanding opportunity for a Full-Time MEDICAL ASSISTANT. Under general supervision, assist health care professionals in the delivery of direct patient care in an ambulatory patient care setting. Perform duties required to assist health care professionals in the examination and treatment of employees such as preparation of environment for treatment, care of the patient post-treatments, patient education, and clerical reception functions. This position is responsible for the Employee health UWMC respiratory fit testing program and all assigned responsibilities. May be assigned to other work in the clinic involving screening and delivery of care to employees. TYPICAL WORK
Performs respiratory fit testing according to written procedure in accordance with state regulations. Explains procedure to employees and rationale for fit testing.
Educates employees in proper donning and removal of respirators including N-95 and PAPRs.
Maintains all record keeping for fit testing and generates computer based reports using dedicated database.
Prepare patients for and assist health care professionals with examinations and immunizations.
Refers patients appropriately who fail fit testing to Environmental Health and Safety office for alternative testing methods.
Displays excellent communication skills in providing education and customer service.
Displays excellent organization skills in maintaining ordering and preparing necessary fit testing supplies.
Observe and document in the medical record the patient's physical and emotional condition and vital signs; recognize and report symptomatology of common medical illnesses to physician or nurse;
May perform procedures as assigned after completing all training required by the medical center and under the supervision of the RN including immunizations, venipuncture, throat cultures.PREPARE AND ASSIST DURING PATIENT EXAMINATION
Monitor patient flow in clinic to assure efficient clinic operations;
Schedule new and return appointment; use computer system to check patients in and out of clinics;
Prepare medical record for clinic visit and document information to complete patient check-in process (or note patient cancellation/failure);
Complete billing documents verifying the correctness of charges and that diagnoses have been obtained;
Verify presence of medical records and x-rays prior to scheduled appointments; request existing records and x-rays as necessary;
Transport patients and lab specimens;
Order medical and clerical supplies; stock examination rooms;
