Essential Job Duties:
Responsible for scheduling and performing emergency duty on the equine emergency rotation (medicine and surgery accessions). Will admit and is responsible for all emergency cases while on duty. The individual will be on clinics approximately 34-39 weeks/52 weeks (65% – 75% depending on the staffing of the service).
Teaches students and house officers emergency procedures while on the emergency service. Attends and contributes to daily student and house officer rounds.
Responsible for teaching DVM students on the Equine Emergency clinical rotation, which fulfills one of the core requirements in the DVM curriculum.
Will participate in clinical research, including retrospective or prospective studies and have the opportunity to collaborate with other equine researchers or small animal ACVECC boarded faculty members.
Position requires assisting referring DVMs during stressful situations.
Work with others in a collegial team atmosphere.
Teach and mentor veterinary students, house officers, and residents.
Requires doctor’s degree, an equivalent degree, or equivalent professional experience.
Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere.
Aptitude for and desire to teach and mentor veterinary students, house officers, and residents is required.
Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds occasionally.
While not required, candidates with ACVECC (Equine) board certification are preferred.
Required license or certification:
Candidates must meet requirements for faculty or regular veterinary licensure in North Carolina and be ACVS board certified.
