This is an entry to intermediate level coding position that codes and abstracts outpatient records for data retrieval, analysis, reimbursement and research. Codes and enters diagnostic and procedure codes into a designated coding and abstracting system utilizing the 3M encoder, as appropriate. Meets qualitative and quantitative coding standards and demonstrates the ability to navigate an EMR. Ability to code across all Centura facilities.
Minimum Education Requirements
High School Diploma or GED required
Minimum successful completion of coding certificate program
Minimum Experience Requirements
A minimum of one year of outpatient coding experience
Must demonstrate competency of outpatient coding guidelines specific to outpatient diagnostics and/or emergency
Demonstrate technical coding competency in coding with current Coding and Indexing systems
Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, pharmacology and coding systems (i.e. 3M)
Prefer current AHIMA credentials (i.e. RHIA, RHIT, CCA) or AAPC credential (CPC)
Job Responsibilities (essential functions identified with a * )
Accurately assigns codes in current Coding and Indexing systems for outpatient accounts, creates APC group assignments while adhering to coding guidelines, regulations and compliance plan. *
Accurately abstracts pertinent information from patient records into the designated computer system and utilizes reports effectively for follow up. *
Ability to communicate well verbally and written, stay organized and demonstrate effective time management skills. *
Meets qualitative and quantitative standards. *
Demonstrates proficiency of designated coding and abstracting system, 3M encoder and online resources and electronic medical record (EMR). *
Sedentary work -(prolonged periods of sitting and exert up to 10lbs force occasionally)
