The New School invites qualified candidates to apply for the Associate Director of Housing Operations. The Associate Director position is a year round, full time position who has directive responsibility for overseeing a comprehensive housing operations function, including assignments and room management, occupancy, billing management, summer operations, and central office operations. This position is a live-in position.
●Supervise the Housing Operations Coordinator and professional and paraprofessional office staff ●Maintain StarRez software and ensure functionality through managing updates and regular maintenance ●Manage the overall housing operation through the management of StarRez including room assignments, withdrawals, review and interpret policies, maintain accurate records and floor plans for all residences. ●Provide direction to the professional and paraprofessional staff regarding occupancy reports, damage billing, opening and closing of residence halls, assignments, and other operational functions. ●Lead the Housing Appeals committee to determine resolution and respond to appeals to housing releases, damage charges, and housing-related fines ●Oversee all aspects of summer housing including contracting, application development, assignments, revenue reporting ●Assess housing procedures, policies, and practices, followed by recommendations for and implementation of approved changes ●Oversee the room change process, housing waitlist and resolve housing assignment issues. ●Streamline and manage all residence hall openings and closings. ●Assist the Senior Director in overseeing renovation projects, purchasing and distributing equipment and furniture, and participating in university wide sustainability projects. ●Develop and oversee the housing furniture and equipment inventory and replacement schedule. ●Collaborate with the Senior Director of Student and Campus Life and the Facilities team in planning short and long-range preventive maintenance and repair/replacement schedule. ●Review and maintain housing charge codes and tables ●Coordinate all student account maintenance functions related to housing ●Ensure accurate billing on student accounts in collaboration with other offices ●Oversee damage assessment and billing process ●Monitor and ensure accuracy of miscellaneous fee charges and assessments ●Oversee computer hardware and software purchase, installation, maintenance and upgrades. ●Maintain necessary collaborations with Campus Safety, Information Technologies (IT), Marketing and Communication (M & C), Student Financial Services, Card Services and other campus partners as needed ●Serve as the department representative on the campus-wide Banner Committee (BUG). ●Provide training for staff at all levels on the Starrez, Banner and Touchnet programs, and other commonly used software programs within the department.
Central Housing Operations ●Streamline office processes, including customer service ●Manage OA hiring, training, & development centrally and across all residence halls ●Manage hiring and training of ACUHO-I Summer Interns ●Liaise with Welcome Center and Admissions Team to coordinate Tour Hours ●Represent Housing and Residential Education at New School Recruitment Events, Open Houses, and Accepted Student Days as needed ●Maintain departmental web pages and upgrades/maintenance of such. ●Advise the Director of upgrades and new features of the Starrez, Banner and Touchnet software programs. ●Communicate as appropriate all housing matters to various departments and constituencies. ●Prepare and disseminate reports and rosters to all appropriate university personnel.
Residential Education ●Assist in the recruiting, hiring, and training of RAs and other student employees, ACUHO-I interns, and graduate and full-time staff and provide direct and functional supervision ●Collaborate with Associate Director for Residential Education to serve on Residential Education committees, including student staff selection, Faculty Initiatives, Sophomore and Transfer Experience, Special Interest Communities and Collectives, Hall Council, and Staff Appreciation ●Participates on New School committees and with projects as needed. ●Housing representative to the Housing Appeals Committee. ●Participate 24/7 in rotational emergency coverage with Associate Directors and Area Coordinators. ●Perform other duties as assigned
Bachelor’s Degree Required
Experience in Higher Education Student Services setting
Previous experience with emergency on-call required
Willingness to work flexible schedule that will allow for evening and weekend hours
4-6 years experience in Student Affairs, Housing & Residence Life
Excellent computing skills including use of all major software programs from Microsoft family and knowledge of Banner, Starrez and Touchnet.
