This position is in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Oncology. This position is for the Medical School Campus.
Position assists Registered Nurses in the care of Oncology patient population receiving medications and procedures in Siteman Cancer Treatment Center.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Quality and Quantity:
Ensures efficient flow of patients through the center.
Maintains a clean safe environment for patients and staff.
Directs phone calls and patient questions to the appropriate individuals.
Reports changes in patient condition to the nurse/charge nurse.
Enters data into EMR.
Provides basic care to patients.
Performs blood draws, finger sticks and specimen collections and procedures based on skill level.
Transports specimens and patients as needed.
Maintains adequate par levels for nursing supplies and monitors for expiration date.
Participates in quality management initiatives as assigned.
Has basic understanding of cancer and the needs of cancer patients.
Attends skills day annually and more often as needed, assures competency of all skills.
Maintains knowledge of all related requirements and practices relative to his/her job assignment.

Continually analyzes and modifies the sequence of tasks required to serve the customer in order to enhance customer satisfaction. Brings forth suggestions for improving processes.
Offers creative suggestions to help improve practice.
Takes initiative to be on committees and take on additional tasks.

High school diploma or GED plus a minimum of 1 year of related work experience.
Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).
Related work experience or relevant training in the medical field preferred (examples of related medical fields include military medic, emergency medical technicians, Nurse’s Aide, physical therapy and nurse technicians, and certified athletic trainers) or Medical Assistant with 2 years experience.
Interactive communication skills with ability to work with nurses, patients, families, significant others, and support staff; must have strong interpersonal, organizational, and telephone skills, working knowledge of anatomy and physiology, fundamentals of medical terminology, and experience/knowledge working with electronic medical records.

The hiring range for this position is $14.17 - $17.35 per hour.
