Provides athletic training services for students as part of the sports medicine service provided by Northwestern University Health Service (NUHS) on the Evanston Campus.
Serve as an integral member of the NUHS sports medicine team. Provide athletic training services in the Northwestern University Health Service, as well as, coverage and/or supervision for club and intramural athletic events. These services are provided under the supervision of the Director of NUHS Sports Medicine, or designee and may include:
Provision of clinic support to physicians and nurses: clinical (taking and recording patient vital signs and reason for visit for appointments, pertinent additional patient information, maintaining clinic areas) and non-clinical areas (appointment scheduling, taking and returning phone messages) consistent with training and NUHS credentialing.
Clinical assessment of patients seen in the Health Service sports medicine program
Perform patient care procedures and support as competency approved
Coordination of care for health center patients in conjunction with physicians and other health center staff
Provision of rehabilitative services for health center patients and club/intramural athletes
Direct and indirect coverage of club and intramural practices/events as agreed upon
Coordination of NUHS appointments for club/intramural athletes
Educational programming for club/intramural athletes and general student body
Creation and maintenance of complete medical records
Clinical supervision of athletic training students in clinical rotations and/or athletic training aides as assigned.
Ensuring clinic rooms are stocked with supplies and maintained for patient use
Participation in Health Service committees, Division of Student Affairs and University activities, contributes to organizational health of department as directed.
Maintenance of CPR certifications, ATC certifications, and others as deemed appropriate.
Completion of administrative responsibilities that may include assisting the Director of NUHS Sports Medicine, or designee with:
Development of NUDAR/NUHS Policy and Procedures for intramural/club sports
Liaison with campus and community resources specific to sports medicine program
Biohazard / OSHA policies specific to sports medicine program
CPR / AED certification
Maintenance of athletic training licensing and certification
Supply inventory management
Physician exam office inventory
Emergency action plan creation and maintenance
Equipment and modality maintenance / repair
Participation in scholarly projects, as assigned
Other duties as assigned
Bachelors degree required
BOC, Inc. Certification
State of Illinois Athletic Training License
Minimum 3 years post-BOC certification collegiate health care experience preferred
Master’s degree preferred in addition to the minimum qualifications above.
