The Coordinator of Residence Life is responsible for the residential educational program and administrative management of six to nine residence halls and 900 to 2200 students within each area. The Coordinator of Residence Life will promote academic retention and student learning.
Required Education and Experience:
Master's degree in a related field such as student affairs or counseling or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Five years related experience such as student affairs or counseling.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Excellent communication skills. General office conditions with the majority of time spent in contact with residence education staff.
Attends meetings and conferences concerning students and with student groups at times beyond usual working hours.
Considerable evening and weekend work. Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
These duties include ability to climb stairs, see, use a video display terminal, talk and hear, travel from building to building.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Doctoral degree in a related field such as higher education administration and at least five years full time professional experience in a related specialty area such as student affairs.
RESIDENCE LIFE / SUPERVISION: Provides direct supervision to area office operations, full-time Community Directors, and Office Associates. Maintains contact with Community Directors of each hall in area of responsibility for purpose of overseeing their area of responsibilities to address issues, concerns, policy implementation and enforcement, administrative responsibilities and miscellaneous needs. Oversees residence hall staff with the enforcement of policies and procedures regarding community standards. Provides indirect supervision to multiple Graduate Hall Directors and Resident Advisors. Supervises and ensures the timely recording, reporting, and necessary follow-up of incidents that occur in assigned halls. Coordinates training and workshops for Residence Education staff on conduct procedures and confrontation skills.
RESIDENCE LIFE / ADMINISTRATIVE: Oversees the full-time Community Directors and Graduate Hall Directors to ensure accuracy of housing administrative records relating to students in assigned halls to include: room assignments; room and hall changes; contract renewal; check-in: inventory cards, occupancy reports, rosters; check-out; inventory cards, work orders, student billings; group billings; other administrative records relating to assigned halls. Monitors Hall Council accounts, both activity fees and Auxiliary Fund Account, for those halls under area of responsibility. Administers these accounts, has fiscal responsibility. Supervises Community Directors and Hall Directors inspection and record keeping of student room inspections. Supervises full-time Community Directors in the accurate record keeping for billing purposes when damage and vandalism occur. Oversees residence hall staff with the enforcement of policies and procedures regarding community standards. Assists where needed, during summer months, for the purpose of ensuring quality services to students and to divide the summer responsibilities evenly among the professional staff. This includes possibly supervising summer school or summer conferences. Serves in an on call duty rotation providing for an on campus population of approximately 10000 students. Assists during peak weekends such as residence hall opening, closing and certain holidays or as determined by the Associate Director of Residence Education.
RESIDENCE LIFE / TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT: Develops and implements training for Resident Advisors, Graduate Hall Directors and Community Directors. This is to include on-going training, in addition to annual and mid-year training. Provides assistance with residence hall staff programming efforts. This requires some after-hours and weekend support. Responsible for creating training budgets and creating spending controls for budget. In collaboration with The Department of Residence Life Risk Management and Environmental Health and Safety to make sure State, University, and Department training and compliance are met. Coordinates ongoing assessment projects focused on the impact of training and the development of staff members competencies related to their work performance. Coordinates ongoing assessment projects focused on benchmarking programs against peer institutions.
RESIDENCE LIFE / CONDUCT & DISCIPLINE: Oversees administration of university conduct code and residence hall policies. Serves as primary liaison with Student Conduct Resolution Services within assigned area. Works closely with Student Conflict Resolution Service to ensure that disciplinary cases and appeals are communicated thoroughly and properly and due process is followed. Assists in these hearings and investigations as needed.
RESIDENCE LIFE / ADVISING & EDUCATION: Works with student organizations and their advisors in an effort to promote academic success, student responsibility, and pride in University community. Serves as advisor as needed. Works with residence life staff, Hall Council members, and residents in an effort to promote academic success, student responsibility, and pride in the University Community. Works collaboratively with departments across the Division of Student Affairs in terms of staff training and development, student engagement and campus involvement.
RESIDENCE LIFE / RISK SAFETY AND SECURITY: Ensures the scheduling of fire drills for designated halls, at least twice per semester and when necessary and works with the Environmental Health and Safety Office in regard to residence hall inspections. Assists staff in monitoring accurate key and card access records including room and master keys. Audits key boxes for each hall assigned at least once per semester. The Coordinator of Residence Life when on duty is required to carry a cell phone 24x7 to be available during crisis responses and emergency situations.
RESIDENCE LIFE / COMMUNICATION: Expands collaborative relationships with student affairs and other departments throughout the campus to create and sustain staff development opportunities and other partnerships. Communicates with students, staff, and emergency response groups as needed. Acts as a liaison between students, the Associate Director of Residence Education, and Department of Residence Life staff.
RESIDENCE LIFE / DEVELOPMENT: Serves on Department, Division, and University committees and task forces at the discretion of the Director of Residence Life and Associate Director for Residence Education. Advances the philosophy of multiculturalism and actively promotes diversity in staffing, programming, and residence hall leadership. Ensures contribution to goals set forth in Vision 20/20. Performs other duties as assigned.
