Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (NP) – Inpatient

The Department of Psychiatry at Maine Medical Center is seeking a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (NP), Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) or Psychiatric Physician Assistant (PA) to join our psychiatric inpatient team in a variety of settings.
We are seeking clinicians to work with our Consultation and Liaison Service, our multidisciplinary neuropsychiatry Adult-Geriatric Inpatient Service, and our Acute Psychiatric Unit (APU) located adjacent to the Emergency Department. The PA/NP is responsible for ensuring that our psychiatric inpatients receive safe, effective, evidence based care for their medical problems.
Additional responsibilities of an Inpatient Nurse Practitioner include performing initial and follow-up psychiatric evaluations for patients admitted to the medical/surgical hospital or in the APU, helping to manage substance use disorders and withdrawal, and performing admission medication reconciliation. This position will also write admission orders, perform admission physical examinations, and review laboratory and ancillary studies. The Inpatient Nurse Practitioner is responsible for coordinating care with the attending psychiatrists, primary care and specialty providers, as well as evaluating and managing any new medical problems that arise for patients on the inpatient unit (with assistance from consulting medical/surgical providers).

Master's degree with an advanced knowledge of nursing theory and practice, and additional medical training.
Current and valid license as a Nurse Practitioner by the Maine State Board of Nursing and qualified to do psychiatric evaluations and medication management.
Advanced skill and knowledge in conducting psychiatric evaluations and treating patients.
Specific credentialing criteria needed if working in the hospital as defined by Medical Staff By-Laws.
