Involves the cleaning and housekeeping of buildings and exterior areas including classrooms, laboratories, offices, auditoriums, gymnasiums, health clinics, rest rooms, private rooms in residence halls and apartments. Also may involve trash and recycling material removal, meeting room set-up and hotel-like room servicing, and floor care.
Receives assignments in the form of objectives with goals and the process by which to meet goals. Provides direction to employees according to established policies and management guidance. Administers company policies that directly affect subordinate employees. Recommends changes to unit or sub-unit policies. Under the direction of the Senior Superintendent of Custodial Services, the Principal Supervisor coordinates custodial operations, providing comprehensive custodial services to residential housing and state facilities as well as providing support for the annual summer conferences and commencement ceremonies. Performs hiring, training, performance management, evaluations, staff professional development and safety training for Custodial Sr. Supervisors and Custodial staff. Assists the Sr. Superintendent in the development of the operating budget by providing input. Develops and implements work standards and quality controls, works with Supervisors and staff to maintain supplies, materials and equipment. Work with vendors and staff to test new cleaning supplies, equipment and replace as needed. Administer the daily unlocking and locking of campus buildings and facilities. Performs various types of record keeping such as time cards, work orders, reports procedures and policies. Performs other duties as assigned.
The Physical Plant Services Custodial Department provides all custodial services campus wide (including some sites that are off the main campus such as the Coastal Science Campus and 2300 Delaware). The services provided range from basic custodial care (cleaning of restrooms, classrooms, common areas, some office tasks, etc), enhanced service such as in our Health Center, summer conference support, commencement support and emergency response to leak cleanup and minor health hazards. Our unit is comprised of a day shift and night shift. Day shift primarily focuses on residential areas with some non-residential like our Libraries and our night shift focuses mainly on the state buildings such as lab buildings, administrative buildings and classrooms.
High school diploma or equivalent certification preferred.
Solid knowledge in custodial and housekeeping services.
Solid verbal and written communication skills in the English language, active listening, flexibility, critical thinking, multi-tasking and time management.
Solid decision making and reasoning skills, ability to develop original ideas to solve problems, and perform operations analysis and quality control analysis.
Solid and effective interpersonal and work leadership skills to provide guidance to other personnel.
Selected candidate will be required to pass a criminal background check.
