Position Overview :
Reporting to the Service Manager or Coordinator, performs cleaning functions in assigned areas of buildings. Assists in maintaining a clean, healthy and safe environment for students, faculty and staff. Acts as a lead person to assigned custodial staff. Performs duties as a project crew member consisting of floor stripping/scrubbing and refinishing. Carpet shampooing and floor buffing as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provide collection and disposal services for wastepaper, trash and debris and recyclable materials. 2. Vacuum carpeting, dry sweep, dust mop and damp mopping of hard surfaced floors. 3. Clean and sanitize washroom/shower room fixtures. 4. Dust, damp wipe, wash and polish furniture and fixtures using a ladder up to 6 feet tall and at times using scaffolds. 5. This position is responsible for using as a guideline in daily work routines the initiatives as expressed in the Facilities Services Custodial Mission Statement. 6. Use scrubbers, buffing and shampooing equipment. 7. Must be able to provide for cleanup of blood borne pathogens (BBP). 8. Moving furniture when required. 9. Clean kitchen floors according to Health Department standards, as required. 10. Shovel snow and spread ice melting compounds. 11. Make beds and set up occupant rooms. 12. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
High school diploma or equivalent. Previous cleaning experience of at least one year in an academic or healthcare environment preferred. Ability to demonstrate both reading and writing comprehension and competency skills. Ability to use manual and automatic scrubbers, buffers and shampooing equipment to perform assigned project work. Must have the ability to lead custodians in assigned tasks.Must be able to operate equipment. Ability to respond to emergency situations during non-scheduled hours required. Must be able to function in temperature and non-temperature controlled environment.
