Work as a member of the Comer Mobile Unit team and through a collaborative practice agreement, provide specialized clinical assessment, evaluation, tests, treatments, therapies, medical management and other direct care to patients under the care of the Comer Mobile Unit.
Obtain medical history and perform physical assessment
Obtain specimens such sputum, urine, and blood from patient for testing
Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic tests
Prescribe appropriate medications as set forth in the delegation of prescriptive authority
Prescribe appropriate treatments
Safely administer vaccines
Screen patients, as appropriate. to practice preventive medicine
Make referrals to other disciplines as indicated
Participate in and determine management of patients as appropriate
Organize and maintain patientsâ™ medical records
Maintain laboratory records in accordance with certifying organizationâ™s requirements
Perform periodic procedures necessary to maintain laboratory certification
Perform or supervise performance of documentation and procedures needed to maintain Vaccines for Children program
Monitor and support data base entry staff person
Enter data in database when needed
Participate in creation of policies and procedures for the Mobile Unit Program
Work with the Mobile Unit team to ensure the efficient, compassionate and productive accomplishment of the Mobile Unit mission
Participate in teaching medical trainees, including nurse practitioner students, medical students and residents
Participate in or perform classroom-based health education for students, parents, teachers and colleagues
Create health education presentations based on the educational needs of the school community and the patient population
Demonstrated clinical competency, effective leadership and teaching skills
Ability to interview and obtain medical information
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to work independently
Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills and strong analytical skill
Education, Experience, and Certifications:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
Advanced degree from an accredited school/college of nursing required
Experience as an advanced practice nurse or nurse practitioner required.
Minimum 2 years of pediatric experience required
Licenses and Certifications:
Ability to obtain Illinois advanced practice nurse (APN) license by start date required
Nurse Practitioner certification required
Current license as a Registered Nurse required
Certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner preferred
Technical Knowledge or Skills:
Proficiency in the use of computers preferred

Direct patient contact or clinical care setting
Exposure to human blood, human blood components, and/or products made from human blood
Exposure to infectious material, exposure to laboratory chemicals
