The essential duties and responsibilities of the Chief of Staff to the Vice Chancellor of Health Sciences include, but are not limited to, the following:
Advises the Vice Chancellor regarding key constituencies, providing context and background information on issues, and coordinating research, projects, and initiatives as assigned by the Vice Chancellor.
Ensures effective and efficient operation of all units in the Division of Health Sciences by establishing unit plans, goals and objectives, designing effective controls to guide work toward expected outcomes, and evaluating progress towards accomplishment.
Ensures senior administration is aware of vital issues including community relations; the legislative agenda; emerging health concerns and trends; healthcare reform; and regulatory changes by providing updates on behalf of the Vice Chancellor (as his/her representative) to Deans, Vice Deans, Assistant Deans, and Associate Deans of the Division of Health Sciences and other campus officials.
Develops and implements action plans to meet the Division of Health Sciences clinical, administrative, space, and sustainability needs by understanding the Division's mission and goals as well as understanding the resource needs associated with both the mission and goals.
Facilitates the Division's achievement of its short-term and long-term legislative agenda at both the state and local levels by meeting with representatives of the state government, and tracking legislation that affects the Division of Health Sciences including, but not limited to, the Set-Off Debt Collection Act (SODCA); the Upper Payment Limit (UPL); indigent care funding; and changes in legislation (Affordable Care Act, HIPAA, etc.).
Expands the Division of Health Sciences constituency, and strengthens existing affiliations.
Promotes a positive image of the Division of Health Sciences by representing the University in community, state, and regional activities.
Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses as required by the Vice Chancellor of Health Sciences.
Delivers responses, speaking for the Vice Chancellor of Health Sciences, to internal and external concerns.
Is a key participant of the Vice Chancellor's leadership team.
Performs any additional duties as assigned.
