Our Department of Social Work has an outstanding opportunity for a Temp./Hourly, MEDICAL SOCIAL WORKER. The individual in this position will provide direct social work services to Psychiatric and Medical Emergency Services, Ambulatory Surgery, the Operating Room and observation status patients and their families located in Emergency Services unit.
Responsibilities: They will implement the full range of social work clinical protocols for patients ranging from infancy through adulthood. Social work interventions include crisis intervention, social work assessment and discharge planning.
Priority patients include: Patients in need of psychiatric evaluation. Minors. Families of patients who are in need of trauma/grief interventions.
Sexual Assault victims. Domestic, elder, and child abuse victims. Patients needing nursing home placements. Patients with chemical dependency and other psycho-social emergencies. Patients needing general resources including transportation and housing. Patients needing other services as requested by provider.
Top candidates will have knowledge of legal requirements for vulnerable populations, involuntary treatment for psychiatric patients and patients with chemical dependencies. To be successful in this position, the Medical Social Worker will have knowledge of community resources relevant to the target population.
Required: A Master of Social Work Degree from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education AND two years of full-time professional social work experience in a health-care setting OR equivalent education/experience. Eligible to begin social work practicum instruction for the School of Social Work.
Legal Requirement: Registration as a Counselor by the State of Washington within 30 days of employment. Licensure as a Social Worker by the State of Washington or become licensed within one year of employment.
