Marketing Statement Elmhurst Hospital Center (EHC) is the major tertiary care provider in the borough of Queens. The hospital is comprised of 545 beds and is a Level I Trauma Center, an Emergency Heart Care Station and a 911 Receiving Hospital. It is the premiere health care organization for key areas such as Surgery, Cardiology, Women's Health, Pediatrics, Rehabilitation Medicine, Renal and Mental Health Services.
Job Description Responsible to and under the supervision of the Chief Nursing Officer. Manages employees responsible for preparing, storing, and distributing equipment as needed for patient care. Oversees proper sterilization of medical supplies, documentation requirements for quality control and assembly of equipment. Responsible for inventory records of Central Sterile Supply. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. Manages departmental budget. Resolves and/or escalates issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Directs and supervises staff to ensure compliance with standards and requirements.
Ensures that quality care is followed per policy and procedure for all sterilization and high level disinfection.
Responsible for oversight of quality performance and maintenance of logs for all biological and chemical monitoring of various types of sterilizers.
Reviews monthly scheduling, approves and manages overtime within budget allowances and reviews and approves requests for time off.
Oversees and/or prepares and presents annual performance evaluations of staff and Assistant Managers.
Schedules education and training related to specific job duties as well as required annual reviews.
Collaborates with Assistant Manager to prepare daily job assignments.
Schedules and holds monthly staff meetings.
Prepares, implements, and/or monitors improved systems and procedures to improve workflow and increase productivity.
Reviews and revises policies and procedures to ensure up to date and relevant to current practice.
Monitors staff compliance in the areas of Physicals, Mandatory Training and Evaluations.
Identifies Performance Improvement Projects and participates in the Division Quality Assurance meetings.
Evaluates cost savings measures and manages yearly budget.
Monitors supply levels and manages vendor issues/contracts.
A Master’s Degree in Art or Science with a specialization in Health Care Administration preferred; and
Four years of administrative experience and background in the field of Central Sterile Supply;
Hold the title of Certified Registered Central Supply Technician (CRCST) or superior;
Knowledge of fundamentals of hospital organization.
Must have working knowledge of standards for all types of sterilization equipment, sonic cleaners, and washer sterilizers.
