The Trauma Injury Prevention and Outreach Coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation, management and evaluation of injury prevention programs. The coordinator partners with the community in implementing strategies, initiatives and campaigns to promote the reduction of preventable injuries in Harris County through community awareness, education, advocacy and action.
The Trauma Injury Prevention and Outreach Coordinator also applies expertise in trauma to facilitate patient care and participates with data abstraction and Trauma Registry entry.
Education/specialized training/licensure: a. Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with a Bachelors degree in nursing required. b. Certification by the Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine (AAAM) as Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) Coding Specialist is required within two (2) years. c. Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) and/or Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certifications preferred. d. Specialized training in related area of community outreach preferred. e. Current license or valid permit to practice professional nursing in Texas.
Work experience: Two (2) or more years in critical care and/or emergency department experience . Experience with injury prevention programs is preferred.
Shift: Ideal applicant will need to have a flexible schedule. Typical hours for this position are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Please note, hours may vary depending on specific assignment/programs the department is working on. May work some weekends depending on program needs.
Equipment operated: Must have Texas Class C drivers license and be insurable.

Advanced Education: Advanced Training/Specialty: Successful completion of TNCC and CPR required. Instructor of TNCC preferred. Related specialty certification preferred.

Other Requirements: Knowledge of medical terminology. Ability to read and interpret medical records and laboratory reports. Accuracy and thoroughness; ability to work independently. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects, tasks and functions. Strong oral and written communication skills.
