The Center for Shock, Trauma and Anesthesiology Research, Organized Research Center (STAR-ORC) and the National Study Center (NSC) is seeking a Senior Research Analyst. This position is responsible for conducting advanced analyses and support of the National Study Center and programs to promote a culture of assessment and evidence-based decision-making. The Senior Research Analyst will compile and interpret research data accordingly; establish and maintain databases; develop quality assurance; and provide final interpretations to others. The Analyst will independently conduct research assignments that include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements and difficult coordination requirements. The Senior Research Analyst is recognized as a subject matter expert and completes the highly complex work critical to the National Study Center. Assignments and projects are broad in nature, requiring originality and ingenuity, and the Analyst has appreciable latitude for un-reviewed action or decision.
The National Study Center for Trauma and Emergency Medical Systems is part of the Shock, Trauma and Anesthesiology Research (STAR) organized research center at the University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Medicine. Dedicated to improving the delivery of trauma care and emergency medical services, the NSC mission is to prevent death and disability caused by injury and sudden illness.

Essential Functions: Design and conduct quantitative research projects, analyze findings, develop conclusions, develop and write reports, prepare presentations of relevant findings and conclusions, and recommend appropriate actions.
Develop effective methods of data collection and assessment. Develop methods and tools to ensure validity and accuracy of data and compliance with quality control requirements.
Establish and maintain database files, perform required data extraction through programming, and report on progress of programs, studies, and/or projects. Duties include performing and supervising data collection. May receive, inventory, enter, organize, and verify validity of any collected data.
Perform sophisticated data searches and exchanges among micro, mini, and mainframe-based statistical software applications to generate standard and customized reports using statistical applications. Demonstrate expertise in statistical applications such as SAS, SQL, Oracle, and Excel.
Acts as lead to summarize and prepare manuscripts, presentations, and proposals by providing and presenting statistical information as tables, charts, or graphs. Review work of support staff and determine how analysis will be presented.
Communicate with clinical providers regularly as part of the most complex data collection, analysis, and reporting process.
Provide guidance, training, and mentoring to less experienced personnel in qualitative and quantitative analysis.
Act as the primary link between clinical researchers and large clinical data repositories to develop and maintain robust datasets for research outputs.
Work as an integral part of a multi-disciplinary research team as the expert on data management, linkage, and quality assurance.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor's degree (in Information Management, Social Science, Public Policy, Mathematics, Statistics, Health Science or Services or in a field of study related to the research. (Master's in related field preferred)
Experience: Two (2) years related experience in a research environment required. The preferred candidate will have: Experience in SAS, SQL, and Oracle preferred.
Other: A unique combination of education and experience may be considered: Bachelor's degree in an unrelated field with at least 18 credits in a field related to research of the clinic or laboratory, as appropriate, or Bachelor's degree in unrelated field with at least one year of experience in a field directly related to research of the clinic or laboratory, as appropriate. Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
May require training related to occupational safety and health, environmental compliance, shipping of hazardous materials, and/or ionizing radiation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Possess a knowledge of position requirements and ability to perform position in compliance with all requirements/regulations/laws.
Ability to understand and utilize scientific/medical terminology and research theory. Knowledge of design of research studies and preparation of technical procedures and reports. Ability to maintain high standards with the work being performed and maintain awareness with trends and influences. Assume personal responsibility for all outcomes; make effective and timely decisions; and learn how to effectively use technology. Maintain productivity and use knowledge strategies to increase knowledge base.
Ability to provide theoretical, conceptual, and written support on research analysis and findings. Develop policies, procedures, and introduce changes as necessary. Ability to mentor and guide other personnel.
Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Write and present information in a clear and concise way. Interpret and understand written information and able to listen attentively to verbal and non-verbal cues that lead to a deeper understanding.
Ability to work cooperatively with others and demonstrate professional, ethical, respectful, and courteous behavior when interacting with others. Capable of interacting pleasantly and positively with others to meet customer expectations and provide follow-up with customers.
Ability to use measurable and verifiable information for making decisions or judgments. Skill in statistical interpretation and data analysis using statistical software as well as spreadsheet and database software applications. Possess excellent organizational and project management skills.
