We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research Data Associate.
In this role, the successful candidate Project Background: This project is a multi-center study of in-hospital, cardiac arrest patients. Portable Electroencephalography (EEG) and cerebral oximetry will be incorporated during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). During resuscitation efforts, raw EEG data will be captured as consecutive images during pauses in CPR, while cerebral oximetry is simultaneously captured. Cerebral ischemia following cardiac arrest leads to significant morbidity and mortality. A major clinical hurdle to improving outcomes has been the lack of a real-time detection system capable of identifying ischemia/quality of oxygen delivery as well as brain function during CPR as markers of the magnitude of global ischemia. This role will be working in a study to further explore the association between cerebral oxygenation and EEG patterns during cardiac arrest. Furthermore, we expect to identify intra-arrest EEG and oximetry thresholds as markers for therapeutic interventions aimed at ameliorating cerebral ischemia during cardiac arrest in real-time.
Opportunity Description: The research assistant will collaborate with the Resuscitation Research team and may attend cardiac arrest events where both cerebral oximetry and EEG data will be collected. After such an event, the student will be responsible for importing and cleaning/organizing raw datasets, merging files, and creating analytic datasets for analysis. The student will be involved in developing research questions regarding EEG and cerebral oximetry, moreover independently conducting relevant literature reviews to inform the research questions, variable definitions, and analytic methods. The student will whether in collaboration with the PI and/neurophysiologists working as sub-investigators review/interpret/analyze raw EEG and cerebral oximetry files, as well as report on their findings.
Performs other duties as assigned.
After a period of time working in the laboratory, the candidate will be expected to train graduate students and post-doctoral fellows in experimental design, technique and performance.
Participates in the editing and proofing of grant proposals, annual grant reports, and manuscripts for publication and recommends modifications to the Principal Investigator.
Contributes to the preparation of articles on research outcomes and progress and to the submission of same for publication.
Reads and understands relevant scientific literature.
Presents findings at lab meeting, responds to challenges, and participates in exchanges of ideas to advance the science.
Demonstrates a significant level of intellectual input into the design of the project.
Communicates results and collaborates with other professionals in the lab.
Prepares figures and diagrams for presentations and publications.
Based on results, independently suggests and tests modifications to protocols.
Records all experimental findings in a laboratory notebook, analyze and interpret experimental findings.
Executes multiple experiments simultaneously over time independently.
Generates hypotheses and designs and performs experiments to test them.
To qualify you must have a Associates Degree plus one year related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
-University graduates, Medical graduates, particularly in neurology, emergency, critical care, anesthesia, Nursing graduates and/or PhD students in related fields with dedicated research time or graduate level students working towards a thesis. This is an unpaid position, although a basic stipend may be available. - Previous experience in neurology (e.g., interpreting EEG patterns) is a plus - Biostatistics and/or statistical analysis experience is a plus
