In this role, the successful candidate The NYU Resuscitation Research Group is a newly established multi-disciplinary group that aims to identify novel methods to save the lives and brains of people who undergo cardiac arrest resuscitation. The complications of cardiac arrest include brain injury, disorders of consciousness and neurocognitive deficits. However, it is increasingly recognized that a systematic approach to cardiac arrest and post-resuscitation care can significantly improve survival, neurological and neurocognitive outcomes. This knowledge, combined with the significant social and medical impact of this condition on human lives, has led to the development of a clinical and research program towards combating this condition.
Our goal is to identify better methods aimed at the prevention and treatment of cardiac arrest as well as its complications. Many studies have indicated that most patients who undergo resuscitation maintain a large ischemic burden during cardiopulmonary resuscitation. This substantially increases the risk of ischemic brain injury and death. We are looking to identify methods to enhance cerebral oxygen delivery beyond conventional cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Project Background: This is a feasibility project to develop and test cerebral oxygen delivery during CPR; as combined hemodynamic and oxygen content derived interventions during CPR are expected to increase oxygen delivery, reduce ischemia, and attenuate post-cardiac arrest inflammation. This study will test the practicability of multiple interventions in in-hospital cardiac arrest patients during CPR and their effects in cerebral oximetry. Additionally, we will analyze survival and neurological status in comparison to the piloted-interventions.
Identifying methods to enhance the quality of brain resuscitation during cardiopulmonary resuscitation:
The student will collaborate with the Resuscitation Research team in attending cardiac arrest events where real-time monitoring data will be collected. After such an event, the student will be responsible for importing and cleaning raw datasets, merging files, and creating analytic datasets for investigators.
The research assistant will be involved in developing and testing the feasibility of a cerebral oxygen delivery system during CPR in humans. Furthermore, they will help analyze and evaluate the necessary data, which may lead to the design of larger future studies.
Further duties may include performing basic statistical analyses (determine missing data, clean relevant data, discover incomplete data sets, complete logic checks, etc.), perform primary data entry into research databases and/or help write methods sections for manuscripts and reports.

assist with data entry into Research Navigator and other tracking tools
assist with scheduling patients for research visits and lab tests
Performs and participates in other job related duties as required.
To qualify you must have a High School Diploma or the equivalent is required. Minimum of 1 year related experience in an office setting or the equivalent combination of education and experience. 2. Detail-oriented 3. Effective Oral, written communication and interpersonal skills. 4.Computer Skills Working knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Power point and Access. Ability to develop basic formulae for spreadsheets; set up routine computer procedures; Ability to access e-mail, electronic calendars, and other basic office support software. Ability to proofread documents and write clear, concise 1st draft. 5. Knowledge of standard office practices. 6. Ability to multi-task while paying attention to details. 7. Ability to use standard office equipment such as copy machines, multi-line telephones, fax machines.
- University graduates, Medical graduates, particularly in neurology, emergency, critical care, anesthesia, Nursing graduates and/or PhD students in related fields with dedicated research time or graduate level students working towards a thesis. - Enthusiasm to actively participate in research related activities including patient recruitment and further project involvement - Previous research experience e.g. writing protocols, with clinical trials, and/or data management is a plus
