Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Quality Manager-Clin Labs.
In this role, the Quality Manager will have reporting responsibilities to the System Quality Director at NYU Langone. He/She will oversee continuous compliance with the Quality Assurance Program, the Laboratory Safety Program and the Chemical Hygiene Plan for the Laboratories at NYU Langone.

Internal/External Assessments: Is responsible to independently coordinate and prepare systematic internal audits within the laboratory to monitor compliance will all regulatory agencies. Assist corrective action plans, FEMA, RCA or PIP and the monitoring of those processes. Schedules and oversees all required internal system and process assessments to include but not limited to AABB, CAP, TJC, NYSDOH
Responsible for overseeing validation procedures with the approval of the Laboratory Directors to establish recorded evidence and provide a high degree of quality assurance for a specific process that will consistently produce an outcome meeting its predetermined specification and quality attributes, e.g. computer system, testing procedures, automated, equipment validation plans. Understands policy and validated processes and procedures, ensures quality of the clinical laboratory testing and specimen processing.
Coordinates a program of auditing to find deviations, procedural drifts and non-conformance to policies. Successfully tracks and trends product/service non-conformance and its possible consequences. Works with supervisors to develop improvement plans if required. Implement tools to ensure sustained improvement is occurring, audits those tools to ensure sustained improvement. Revises improvement plans as necessary. Prepares and reports all findings to the Laboratory leadership team and committees as required. Prepares periodic report for the NYULMC System Quality and Safety Committees.
Under the guidance of the Laboratory Directors, prepares reports and oversees departmental documentation in accordance with various regulatory agencies, including but not limited to AABB, CAP, NYDOH, TJC and CMS. Maintains procedures to ensure appropriate and immediate response to and resolution of all issues and complaints: investigates and responds to complaints, errors, accidents or concerns as appropriate. Monitors occurrence/incident reports and reports findings to laboratory management. Oversees plans for improving processes and workflow to ensure patient safety and quality of services provided.
Participates in cost control activities by seeking the most effective method of delivering quality services and maintains an awareness of the cost impact of decision and actions. Ensures that operational controls are in place to assure the provision of high quality and cost effective services.
Under the guidance of the Laboratory Directors, coordinates and standardizes training programs. Ensures appropriate updates to orientation, training and competency documents as required. Ensures standardization across departments.
Demonstrates knowledge of Safety within the Clinical and Anatomical Laboratories including biological, chemical and waste stream management. Ensures the laboratories are in compliance with regulatory, departmental and hospital standards. Works with the Laboratory Directors to draft and maintain safety standards for work areas including but not limited to, bench, refrigerators, incubators, grossing room and stock rooms. Tracks all employee injuries and reports to Laboratory Directors. Works with the supervisors and Laboratory Directors to maintain chemical hygiene inventory.
Demonstrates knowledge of Clinical Laboratory Quality Assurance Activities and Standards. This position is responsible to review and maintain the Quality Assurance Plan ensuring all new standards and regulatory requirements are updated and adhered to. This position is required to submit periodic reports to the Lutheran Hospital Quality Council, the NYULMC Clinical Lab Quality Director. Writes accurate policies, performs training, in-services and documents staff education as required
Demonstrates knowledge of the Organizations Service Standards and incorporates them into the performance of duties. Promotes teamwork and collaboration intra and inter departmentally. Provides guidance to laboratory employees for the promotion of customer service to hospital staff and the community. Interacts courteously with co-workers and other health care providers. Demonstrates professional image.
Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a B.S. in Medical Technology or equivalent. Six years of appropriate clinical laboratory experience. Licensed by NYS Department of Education as a Clinical Lab Technologist..
Required Licenses: Clinical Lab Technologist-NYS
Preferred Qualifications: MT (ASCP) or equivalent with graduate degree in a related health field. Previous supervisory experience with QA experience in a health field preferred.
