Pediatric Otolaryngology medical assistant is responsible for daily clinical support to physicians, nurse practitioner, nurses and residents, for efficient clinical flow of office practice.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Arrive on time to clinical area.
Print and review physician schedules for the day.
Inspects all exam rooms for par levels of equipment and cleanliness.
Escorts patients and parents to clinical area, obtaining height, weight and vital signs on all patients, per meaningful use directives.
Interacts with patients on age appropriate levels.
Obtains and enter chief complaint, allergies, medications, immunizations, review of systems, pharmacy information, vital signs (weight, height, pulse and over 3 years, B/P) and social history into electronic health record.
Monitors patient flow; informing medical staff of patient order and communicating special needs.
Holds patients for procedures, such as microscope exams, ear cleaning, and naso/pharyngeal endoscopes.
Assists patients and parents to audiology, lab, radiology and other appointments.
Pre-washes all instruments and cycles into autoclave at the end of the day.
Changes out Enzol, Cidex and suction tubings and canisters according to schedule.
Answers office phones and takes messages for medical staff with professional demeanor.
Communicates well with parents, patients and medical staff.
Keeps clinical nurse administrator aware of equipment problems and any injury, accident or patient dissatisfaction issues.
Communicates well with Bio-Medical Engineering, Linen and Housekeeping.
Takes responsibility for keeping rooms stocked. Orders and maintains par levels of� all disposal supplies from PSS. Keeps supervisor informed of broken or non-functioning instruments and other non-disposable supplies.
Responsible for delivering safe and efficient patient care.
High school diploma or GED; a Registered or Certified Medical Assistant with a minimum of 6 months of related work experience (examples of related fields include military medic, emergency medical technicians, Nurse’s Aide, physical therapy and nurse technicians, and certified athletic trainers); substitutions include:
Medical Assistant certification/registration eligible with successful completion of certification exam within 6 months of hire date or within a shorter time frame if noted by hiring manager
Graduate of an accredited nursing program (such as RN/LPN), or comparable allied health training program with a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience
Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements.).
Graduate of accredited medical assistant program.
Familiar with an electronic health record.
Typing skills (~20-30 words/minute).
Applicant Special Instructions:
SAFETY: Demonstrates safe work habits and is knowledgeable of all related equipment and office processes. Completes annual Health/Safety OSHA training and Billing Compliance requirements.
JOB LOCATION AND WORKING CONDITIONS: St. Louis Children’s Hospital, 3rd Floor outpatient clinical area. Position involves exposure to infectious materials, including human blood borne pathogens. Holding, moving and lifting patients is required.
The hiring range for this position is $13.89 - $17.01 per hour.
