Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Manager-Research Lab Operations.
In this role, the successful candidate will provide operational support for 6 floors of research labs in the Smilow Research Building, Alexandria Life Sciences Center, Medical Science Building and VA Hospital. This will include oversight of scientific instrumentation. Will liaise with RED+F, EM+ER and with other administrative departments on matters related to building operations, cleaning and recycling, climate control, compliance and laboratory safety. Will assist with the response to emergency needs either on-site or electronically, and if necessary, outside of normal business hours.
Assist PIs or lab managers with IBC and BSL2 approvals and inspections.
Maintain a database of laboratory personnel contact info.
Responsible for coordinating Material Transfer Agreements from contract approval to shipment and receiving of research materials.
Assist PIs in purchase, delivery and installation of capital equipment and oversee laboratory renovations as needed.
Coordinate re-organization of lab space for optimization and devise and implement strategies for best use of shared spaces.
Coordinate temporary storage of unused instruments and make recommendations for equipment repair and disposals.
Coordination with the departments of RED+F, OSR and Research Emergency Resilience.
Responsible for compliance to all University local, state and federal regulations as it relates to radiation safety, hazardous chemical waste disposal, environmental services, FDNY, inspections, and other related areas deemed appropriate and working with lab managers to make labs ready for inspections.
Oversee purchasing service contracts and maintenance of all equipment, including arrangements for annual inspections of equipment including process and payment of service contracts and maintain records of contracts, service calls and equipment status.
Make recommendations and coordinate repair, removal, replacement of equipment and permanent building features (floors, cold rooms, dark rooms, etc.) and communicate with building services (carpentry, electrician shop, environmental services) and building managers.
Strategically plan, initiate, organize and oversee all lab and office moves and transfers, including coordination with NYUSoM space planning staff.
Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a Bachelor of Science in biology, chemistry or relevant Science, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience. 5 to 7 years of laboratory and/or laboratory operations experience. Individual should have a familiarity with the capabilities, requirements, uses and physical conditions of active research laboratories.
Preferred Qualifications: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to persuade and negotiate Solved difficult problems and issues Aptitude for quick learning and multi-tasking is critical Ability to work with and familiarity with technical lab equipment
