Macalester College seeks to hire a full-time Operations Manager to work in Campus Activities and Operations. This position manages evening and weekend activities and building operations of Campus Center, Hill Ballroom, and other campus event facilities. The Operations Manager provides support to Campus Activities and Operations (CAO) student employees during evening hours.
The hours for this position will be Tuesday – Saturday, 12:30 pm – 9:00 pm.
• Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates Campus Center Building Manager and Event Manager Staff • Provides support to the Information Desk, Campus Activities Desk and Summer Conference Staff during evening and weekend hours as needed • Monitors facility use by individuals and groups to ensure conformance with established policies and procedures • Operates, maintains, and inventories audio-visual systems in medium and large event spaces on campus • Inspects rooms prior to scheduled events to ensure proper facility setup, audio-visual equipment setup, cleanliness, and lighting • Assists Director of Campus Operations with oversight of the Conference & Facility Rental program • Administers operational procedures including training, procedural manuals, work order logs, and equipment inventories to ensure success at events • Determines, recommends for purchase, and maintains necessary inventory to support campus events • Manages evening and weekend activities and building operations of Campus Center, Hill Ballroom, and other medium and large event facilities, using EMS reservations system for event coordination and information needs • Diagrams event setups in Visio • Observes, responds to, and reports emergency or unusual occurrences such as theft, vandalism, illness, and drug or alcohol related problems • Establishes rapport and maintains communication with diverse facility users and campus partners to ensure all needs are met
• A minimum of 1 year of previous experience with building and/or special event management in a multi-purpose facility • At least 1 year of experience with audio-visual operations including sound, lights, computers, and projection systems • Bachelor’s degree in education, business, hotel/hospitality management or related field is required, Master’s degree is preferred • Experience in higher education is preferred • Ability to work evening and weekend hours • Demonstrated ability to trouble-shoot technical systems (AV, computer, etc) • Ability to manage multiple tasks of varying priority on a regular basis and strong organizational skills. • Experience maintaining equipment inventories • Ability to run large sound systems and support major events (concerts, lectures, etc.) • Ability to hire, train and supervise student employees • Excellent oral and written communication skills • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with staff, faculty, students, alumni, and campus visitors from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds • Demonstrated experience in building relationships
