Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Nurse Liaison.
In this role, the successful candidate The Surgical Service Nurse Liaison program assists our patients, family members and surgical teams in navigating through the perioperative experience. The nurse liaison will act as a link between the patients, family members and the surgical team by offering guidance and proactively communicating timely updates. The Liaison will advocate for patients and family members needs thus improving the patient experience. The Liaison will utilize clinical expertise to coordinate related patient care activities and flow of information in patient care areas such as the Holding Area, Operating Room, PACU, and Family Waiting Areas to ensure continuity of care.
Registered Nurse with 3+ years of inpatient surgical/peri-operative (PACU and/or Operating Room) experience Strongly Preferred. The RN in this position will float across various specialties within the surgical/peri-operative services.
Initiates professional development plan for self to improve and sustain clinical and leadership competencies.
Participates in evaluating the effectiveness of education and development activities in achieving desired outcomes.
Facilitates participation and team-work by multidisciplinary team to promote patient cantered care.
Collaborates with others to develop a learning atmosphere that supports education and development of pre/post perioperative staff.
Functions as a respectful member of the health care team.
Demonstrates a spirit of collaboration and effective cooperation with other departments within the hospital.
Assist with compliance with standards and regulations for agencies pertinent to the unit or clinical service.
Identifies, initiates investigation and proactively responds immediately to potential and/or actual risk management issues.
Communicates significant patient care issues, physician concerns, safety and/or critical events to nurse manager- pre/post pacu and or seeking consultation when necessary.
Facilitates an environment conducive to creativity in practice, collaboration with all members of the health team, and the fostering of collegial relationships.
Ensures pertinent communication of patient care and unit related issues from nursing/physician staff are conveyed to the health care team.
Supports the mission, philosophy, standards, goals and objectives of the institution, department and service line.
Implements Service Recovery when necessary, working to address and/or resolve issues/complaints as quickly as possible.
Adheres to the ASPAN and AORN standards, recommended practices and guidelines.
Participates in the development, promulgation, and implementation of process standards for the delivery of patient care relevant to scope of service.
Serve as a role model for staff in considering the needs and behaviors of specific patient age groups and cultures.
Assists in facilitating a collaborative interdisciplinary approach to achieve optimal patient care outcomes.
Prepares patients and family members for what they can expect during the surgical experience to reduce anxiety and set appropriate expectations.
Ensures and participates in providing ongoing patient education or discharge instruction consistent with the prescribed regimen of care.
Provides clinical information and updates from the OR to the patients family members when appropriate by assessing the unique needs of each surgical case and the individual patient/family member needs.
Demonstrates awareness and recognition of the clinical plan of care.
Assumes responsibility for identifying, coordinating and implementing perioperative patient care.
Serves as a professional role model by incorporating expertise, critical thinking and related experience in all aspects of the nursing process in care of patients and families.
Acts as key point of contact for patients and family members during their time in the perioperative area.
Promotes excellent customer service for patients, physicians, and others by ensuring expectations are met or exceeded.
Provides excellent patient centered care by assessing, implementing and evaluating the care provided to patients in the pre/post perioperative area.
Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a Current Registered Professional Nurse in the State of New York. Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. 2 years of Medical-Surgical Nursing Experience.
